I was watching it on Netflix and lol'd quite a few times during the pilot. Like the parts where Ash's pokedex was making fun of him.

Having rewatched it 3 times now during the recent marathons on Twitch, I agree. The first few seasons were pretty good. The Indigo League is probably my favorite.

I tried rewatching and couldn't bear for more than an episode. I did enjoy Pokemon Origins though

There are things about it that are great(Ash's character and interactions), and a ton of bad(most gym battles, the ending)

Once they caught their stride it was pretty good. Early on it was strange, like how they did the Pokemon's voices and interactions, Team Rocket, etc. Also, lol'd at how almost every badge Ash got that league was either from a friend or because he helped out/the gym leader felt sorry for him. He never even had to battle Giovanni in the end, just an easy battle with TR.

You said you watched it on Netflix, do you guys (assuming you're in the States) have the full Indigo League? I recently rewatched it with my GF but here in Canada we only have 53 episodes or so. It's literally missing the best parts, like the Magmar/Charizard Cinnabar gym match, not to mention the actual league battles. I also wanted to see the episode where Meowth taught himself English again, lol.

On Netflix the Indigo season has 52 episodes. The US version also has the SunMoon, X/Y and XYZ seasons.

Seems like you guys are the same as us then. I don't know why the rest isn't available. Had they already changed dubbing/VA studios by that point? Might be some obscure licensing issue.

All the other seasons (minus Sun/Moon which I believe is still airing in Japan) are complete. What gives? Haha.

The studio didn't change until Season 9.

To answer the question I go to Wiki.

On U.S. television, how the seasons are organized is changed: the first 52 episodes that aired in the U.S. (from September 1998 to September 1999) are a part of the first season, and the remaining 28 episodes (from September to November 1999) are a part of Season 2 (and "Beauty and the Beach" of Indigo League aired during Season 2), followed by 25 Adventures on the Orange Islands episodes. On DVD, Season 1 is made up of all 80 Indigo League episodes that aired in the U.S.

So Netflix splits it up this way. Move on to S2 to watch the rest.
