my dad works at a defense contractor and a few years back, the company discovered they were infiltrated by a chinese spy. apparently the dude worked at the company for like 30 years and did nothing but funnel classified military intel to the chinese govt.

his entire life was devoted solely to stealing military secrets - for example when the FBI started investigating and put cameras into the guy's house he didn't even have furniture, just boxes and boxes of classified papers that he was organizing to send to his handler.

crazy stuff. the entire country is like the place in Blade Runner 2049, but at least Blade Runner has hologram gfs you can plow

Economically they're kind of booming. So I think that would be a big motivator if you're able to make it over there.

Another thing is that don't just collectively assume that everyone there or abroad is supportive of the government. People are just afraid to speak out against the CCP but the CCP is a collection of a-holes.

To some extent this is true, but I'm pretty sure if China had elections they'd still stomp. People aren't encouraged to actively engage in politics, and the media is so tightly controlled and the propaganda is so ingrained in every facet of their lives that people believe it. It's kind of like how Putin has such legitimately high approval ratings in Russia.

China has spent decades perfecting government control of the media. I think it's getting to the point that they barely need it anymore.
