I just saw this. Man, that's a huge bummer. I've listened to their podcast every single week on my commute. I seriously don't even know what to replace it with.

It sucks that their friendship broke up, and I hope that they can mend it. What sucks too is that they bought that studio and now have to sell that likely.

I like watching some of their solo stuff but it doesn't feel the same. Overall, absolute bummer.

I've been listening since episode 1, never missing one. This really does leave a 2 to 3 hour gap in my weekly routine, it sucks. Guess this was why Paige was on the newest episode instead of Matt. But hey, we'll see how Pat and Woolie do with their own podcast. Maybe someone else will end up there. That's almost certainly it for LPs, though.

As for other podcasts, I assume you already listen to the Beastcast and Bombcast. I dunno besides that. There's Waypoint, but I don't really like anybody on that other than Patrick and Austin.

I think part of it is for stuff like this, people arent just really criticizing the product. For lets plays/vlogs/podcast the person IS the product in a lot of ways. So criticism feels more personal, which leads to meeting fan expectations being even more stressful.

I love Danny Sexbang more than anything. But Arin absolutely ruins that channel.

Apparently Arin had to make a video apology recently because they only had like two episodes of spooky games instead of a week's worth for Halloween and their horrible, god awful community reflected from Arin's personality started spamming crap about no spooky games not only on Game Grumps but Ninja Sex Party too.

But the Best Friends community always seemed chill and most criticisms they had were really just playful jokes since they were always mocking themselves all the time anyway. I dunno though. They even hired a friend to edit and post the videos to alleviate them of that stress too.

I was really excited for the future of their channel too given the recent collaborations with Achievement Hunter. The two channels are literally the only LP channels I watched and they are so different I never expected them to collab in a million years. We were headed towards fresh content and increased exposure for the Best Friends.

Lots of feelings right now. Was the one channel I would consistently follow and listen to the podcast for. They were all branching out to their own things but this still seem pretty rooted, they were working on new merch and everything. And like you guys said, RE2 and DMCV were gonna be HUGE for them.

Oh, no. I don't blame Arin for it. I know it may have seemed like it since I have a dislike for him. I know they have a ton of projects they do, and seriously, it's super strange that people cared that much. The only thing I blame him for is having a personality that his fanbase reflects, in that it's rather negative and toxic.

There's a distinct difference in these fanbases. Arin just screams and blames everything else for issues he has in games and is overall negative towards a lot of it to the point that it sometimes comes off bitter. So of course his fanbase is going to reflect that.

The Best Friends would be negative about stuff, but they'd still laugh and make jokes about it and generally just be a bit snarky and at least act like they had fun with each other while also trashing on one another in a good natured manner. So the fanbase just cracks sarcastic jokes about them. In fact, you can see this in the comments of their goodbye video. People are making inside jokes based on everything they say and saying they'll miss them greatly for the majority of it.

When the Game Grumps fanbase lost JonTron, for example, they all just screeched madly about how horrible it is and how it's all ruined and dumped all over Dan and Ross about how they suck and they miss old Game Grumps and how Dan will never be able to replace JonTron. It's distinctly different, and I think it's entirely because of Arin's crappy attitude.

I personally am not much of an LP guy so I was way more invested in their channel back in the machinima days with the edited one-offs. Those were some of the best vids I've ever seen, especially Portal 2 and Duke Nukem Forever. The one LP of theirs I really got into was Starfox Adventures, especially the ending of that was hilarious.

Ultimately though, I hope they can mend whatever broke their relationship up, it sucks to see friends not be friends anymore.

Kind of seems like Pat may have been the common denominator in Liam leaving and now this.

Someone asked Liam on Twitter about the bad blood between Matt and Pat and if Pat was the reason he left, and he said they're not friends and to leave it at that. I like Pat but I can imagine having to deal with him day in and day out would get exhausting.

Hopefully if that's the case Woolie doesn't get pushed away as well, I like their dynamic.

Not to entirely defend Pat (because I definitely agree that you're right in that it would be a bit tiring to deal with Pat that much sometimes), but Liam and Matt seem like they have some issues on their own. Liam seemed to take the obvious bullshit Pat would expel entirely too seriously and would actively get annoyed by it. But Liam seemed like he would take most everything way too seriously, and he would get heated more than anyone else. Matt, on the other hand, has noted mental issues which I don't think anyone faults him for, but he gets entirely too stressed about everything from what it seems like, and he takes things way too hard. He also seems like he's on vacations all the time, and while that's fine, he still manages to be so stressed out because of that.

I think eventually they would have both been worn down by Pat, and I'm sure business decisions they had to make behind the scenes had a big part of this too. But I don't think it's fair to say that it's Pat that's the common denominator and act like that's it.

I did not know about this, just went on liam's Twitter and saw. I really thought Liam leaving was solely his own anxiety shit with being in a business like that in general, not the actual people involved.

This does seem to point to Pat, and icon was telling me that Pat's girlfriend Paige has some uh alternative perspectives on things that find their way into Pat's solo streams. I've never really watched his solo streams so I never know about any of this. And then I thought about it and I don't think Matt or Matt's girlfriend Leana ever really interacted or acknowledged Paige, so I wonder if this is all related.

Of course I shouldn't be speculating on personal shit like this but I just really wanna know

Woolie and Pat seem like they have the most in common in terms of gaming. They're both pretty open minded (pat is more stubborn about admitting it though) and it's led to them having a lot of the same interests. Several of their videos are one of them being super knowledgeable about whatever game it is and the other is like "ehhh I'm not sure about this" and it ends with them being super sold on it. They also are the 2 biggest into fighting games of the 4 which I'm sure is a huge selling point to their relationship.

Yeah Matt's definitely been checked out of the LP game for a while and more focused on the scripted stuff on his own channel, and I can agree that both he and Liam would take Pat too seriously sometimes.

Definitely feels like this was planned for a while with how much all three have been branching out lately, especially Woolie going full steam on streaming and starting a podcast of his own about failing at things right before this happened, but I also feel like it wasn't supposed to happen this abruptly.

They cancelled Friday's Fisticuffs (Smash) due to "urgent reasons" and I can't help but think something happened to drop the hammer on this happening now. Pure speculation though, we'll probably never really know what went down and that's ok too.

At least they'll all be doing their own stuff! And I hope without the business side of things in the way Matt and Pat can mend their relationship.

Yes it is those people, and yes people loved what they did, though they diversified and grew out of how it originally was later on (with one guy obfuscating stupidity literally all the time and the other guy being the smart jackass)

Honestly Liam has been doing way better as a solo stream, I love watching his solo stuff. He's just so positive and grateful for games in general it's endearing.

Matt I've watched some of his solo stuff, he does some good bits. I keep tabs on it every now and then.

Pat I've not watched any of his streams, I've been tempted to in the past but ehhhh I dunno nothing has ever made me go YEA LET ME WATCH THIS NOW

Woolie seems to be starting up some interesting stuff, I'm probably gonna try to check out some of it.

Wow this really sucks but I suppose it's been coming (guess I really felt it when Paige took Matt's spot on the recent podcast and no Smash Fisticuffs). Between all of them branching out to their own channels, Matt being checked out for so long, and all the other stuff going on behind the scenes it was bound to happen.

There was also that whole thing between Pat and Liam and also Matt and Pat now (though I think that was just them taking Pat too seriously. Especially Liam. I also think Matt was a little salty how Pat was more popular than him)

Ah well at least they were upfront about all this rather than beating around the bush. Guess they managed to escape Dante's Inferno, RE6, and Sonic Unleashed after all.

I recommend SuperGreatFriend, if we're recommending people. He is my absolute favorite because he attempts to make sense of dumb bullshit in bad or nonsense games. He's the one who did the best Deadly Premonition LP before everyone else did.
