Theres multiple categories Theres TAS (tool assisted speedrun), which allows for things like extreme slowmo or rewind. No. Try speedrunning SMB1's route while using the glitches and you'll realize that some games are significantly harder using glitches. SMB1 is the epitome of "press Right to win" platforming without glitches, but there's like 5 frame-perfect inputs in getting the 1-1 flag alone if you use them IIRC. There's no glitching or walljumps needed for 1-1 but the speed run actually starts before you even press start due to framerules. Everything after 1-1 used some kind of glitch though. I could've sworn 1-1 at least used that flagpole glitch (you know, where Mario hugs up against the block at the bottom of the flagpole instead of walking into the castle).
