MGS frequently. I played through the SNES DKC games earlier this year and I'm working on Xenogears/Xenosaga and the Mario & Luigi series.

If I decide to run through a series I generally try to do it in the chronological order of the story - for example, if it were Halo I'd play Halo Wars and Reach before Combat Evolved despite CE being the first game. This works best with series I've already beaten and want to play through again though.

If I'm picking up a new series I haven't played before though, there's a good chance any prequels are assuming I have the knowledge of the previous games story to make sense of what's going on and that can suck, in addition to spoiling things you wouldn't immediately know in the later installments, so I'll play those in order of release.

I mostly do release order.

Exception is Mega Man, which I order by canon, then series chronology, then release order.

So for example I play 7-10 before X1 even though X1 released first and I play ZX before Battle Network even though Battle Network released first and L1 before MotB even though MotB takes place first.
