Gaming technology tends to progress faster than cinematic tech. That and games revolve around gameplay which is constantly evolving and cinema often reflects the era in which it was made in a way that audiences often frown on revisiting.

If the very concept isn't what upsets you, then you can easily see that video game remakes are generally of better relative quality than movie remakes.

There have been plenty of successful movie remakes recently though. They just need to be good. Look at Mad Max, IT, Plant of the Apes reboot, the recent Kong movie, live action Jungle Book, etc.

Sure there have been plenty that failed too but often times its because the creators miss what made the originals captivate audiences originally.

We don't? Most remakes are actually just bad. The best ones you probably never realized are remakes.

Some examples of well liked remakes:
True Grit
Ocean's 11
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
The Nutty Professor

Additionally:

Independence Day (this is a remake of War of The Worlds, let's be real)
The Hobbit... Yeah the original was animated but that's not really any different than the remakes they're doing now
Charlie and the chocolate factory / Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory

There's also several movies about the same legend even though they're not remakes of each other they all use the same source material. There's like a bajillion journey to the West movies for example.

Video game remakes play into nostalgia and presentation of stuff from your childhood but with better tech and graphics

Movie remakes happen because established IPs can do better at box office

One factor is that older games, especially the ones from the earlier era of 3D modeling, can benefit from newer technology to make the game closer to an idealized version that wasn't possible at the time. Also, games can add more modern features that simply may not have been obvious at the time.

Most movies simply don't have much to gain from a remake, except for maybe some updated special effects. Also, a lot of movies are today are remade more for sociopolitical corrections than any real interest in the property itself.
