It pretends to be southern, but no, Missouri is in the Midwest.

According to Wikipedia, it's Midwest. Looking at a map, I'd say that basically makes sense. It's in the same general area as Iowa, Indiana, etc. and is only slightly further South.

The major cities(stl and kc) may as well be southern, but the other areas are distinctively midwest.

It was part of the south in the Civil War. St Louis is a sister city of New Orleans.

If I were to boil it down to generalizations, I'd say the opposite. St. Louis and especially KC are fairly typical midwest cities. It's when you get to places like Lebanon or the Ozarks where you start to see the Confederate Missouri roots bleed through.

Stl and Atlanta are very similar cities.

The only people who say Missouri is southern aren't from Missouri. It's midwestern. And saying St. Louis specifically is like a southern city is a weird take. I'd say the better answer is that places in Missouri outside of St. Louis are more southern. Like all those rural corn places.

Why even ask us when the all-knowing Wikipedia has the answer

Also, is there a section on how tall houses are there?

I literally grew up in St Louis. Was there for 22 years. Stl is VERY similar to Atlanta.

Agree with this. Lived in Stl all my life except for a few years in college where I was in a rural area near kc

Admittedly, I didn't grow up in the white people part of Stl, I can't even tell you what that part of town was like outside of shopping areas and architecture. In terms of the hood though, and the culture, stl and atl are very close.

While I don't disagree with you (I know close to nothing about Missouri) I don't get why you chose to emphasise the "rural corn places".

Well I just equate farmland with "southern", and there are certainly many stretches of grain.

Then again, St. Louis is really close to Illinois, too.

It's Midwest

Reason: it's west of the Mississippi River, While still being towards the middle.

For whatever reason they use the Mississippi River as the great east/west dividing line in the U.S.

Yeah. I grew up in St.Louis and been to the southern parts of Missouri and it's very different than the northern parts. Geographically it's midwest. But culturally it's an amalgam.

The midwest produces way more corn than the south.
