In my experience, "stupid" is pretty subjective and there's always a common ground you can find with someone, be it hobbies or educational interests or what have you. A lot of times, "stupid" is really more just "lack of experience and understanding", and being patient with someone and helping them through a situation or problem can help "clear the stupidity". I use "stupid" in quotes throughout here because it just feels mean to say it in the first place. Wife got tired of the fact that she had really expensive dietary tastes and we were the ones disproportionately footing the bill, though.
