i mean like you have to collect all the store's shopping carts etc..... Or if this wasn't your only job there, that you did it frequently. Do you really dislike doing this?

I used to be a cart pusher at Walmart. The mule had no key and because the store was always understaffed because they were cheap, i was always by myself. They yelled at me because i was "being lazy and wasn't working hard ans fast enough", despite being by myself. After they yelled at me in front of everyone (costumers and coworkers), i took my vest off, left it in front of personnel door, and walked out and never returned.

Now your carts really aren't getting done, are they Walmart?

One of my best friends did this for a while. He said the worst part were the days he worked solo and times he found gross stuff in the cart.

At my very first job as a courtesy clerk at Albertson's, we were scheduled once or twice a day for an hour to do nothing but push carts in the parking lot. It was kinda neat because you would work non-stop for the first half an hour, then chill for the rest of the time since you had turned in most of--if not all--the carts.

Funny thinking about it though, that was along time ago.

When I worked in a department store I had to do it sometimes. It was pretty good except during the winter when things got a little tricky due to the icy parking lot (not helping matters was that ours was on a bit of a slope) and the really cold days weren't ideal, but I didn't have to be outside long enough at a time for it to really be a problem. Biggest issue was honestly how dumb people are, they'd see you pushing a bunch of carts and just rush in front of you then stop to look at something, oblivious to the fact that it's not easy to stop 8 carts on a dime. Kind of amazed I never actually hit anyone, but I guess I just learned to not trust people to not do stupid things. The worst were the mothers who would shove their strollers out in front to try to get ahead because they'd rather their baby get run over than risk waiting a few seconds for me to just walk by them.

It was part of another job I did at a grocery store

everyone tried to pawn doing it off on each other especially in the hot summer. The worst thing that ever happened while doing it was pushing my hand down into one of them not paying attention and thinking I was pulling out a bag or something, and ending up sinking my fingers into a hot full baby diaper

For the most part the customers were alright enough, the bad ones were usually just deliberate jackasses. Nope, but I was doing it tonight. I'm normally a cashier at my supermarket but they called me a few days ago saying they needed me to push carts tonight for 6 hours. I've done it about a dozen times before so I said sure. It's really not that bad, but idk if I can speak for that since it's not usually my job.

More details. People say it's boring but you can listen to music, I don't have to wear the normal uniform or my nametag for work, and I don't have to talk to people. It's a lot of walking but there are others most of the time. After 10 pm it's only 1 person doing the carts. We have to take the carts out of the stalls from outside and place them right in front of the entrances and fill them all the way up.

Screw that shit. Target gets wayyyy to busy to actually push them by hand. Even pushing 10 by hand was hard as shit trying to steer that bastard.

The place I worked wasn't super duper busy, we were in a city of about 55,000 people that also had a Wal-Mart that took a fair bit of traffic from us (and we were right next door to a larger city, so that probably further took some traffic away) so it wasn't so bad. Could usually handle 10 at a time without trouble unless it was really icy out, and it would usually only take two or three trips at a time and then you wouldn't need to go back out for a while.

Seriously, it's not that big of a fucking deal as long as the person who just used the cart doesn't leave it somewhere where it can block traffic, hit someone else's vehicle or could make the cart pusher's job that much more difficult. Also, stores owners and CEOs will make any excuse to cut labor costs and / or justify increasing prices as long as they can get away with it. It has very little to do with the laziness of customers and they sure as hell would prefer "lazy" customers coming in and buying things than not coming in at all. Besides if everyone returned the carts the cart pusher wouldn't even have a job, or would only have like 10 hours a week tops.

I used to do it when I worked at Target. Was pretty good at it too. Like someone else said, you were only really supposed to put 20 - 25 max on the machine, but I'd sometimes have 40 - 50 depending on how busy it was.

Was also responsible for things like giving the cashiers bags, collecting hangers, collecting the handbaskets and making sure the spill stations were stocked.

I work at a Walmart now and do it sometimes, but here we just do it by hand so it takes quite a bit longer.

It's no big deal most of the time unless it's like 90+ outside or it's pouring rain.

I used to do that at Menards. I think I was called carry out. Main job was to do carts and help load cars if needed, but I was also trained on register as backup when it got busy. Other various job duties as well. The most annoying thing was probably coming in in the evening or Saturday into a shit storm because the person before me sucked, then having to haul ass to catch up. There was no automatic pusher thing. Carts were pushed manually.

It's recommended to have someone help you 'steer' them so to speak if you have a lot of carts, but it's not mandatory. Most times you would be by yourself, as there was one morning and one night cart attendant. Weekends were the only exception; there was a mid so your lunch could be covered.

I'm not management but might as well be, as I do plenty of managerial tasks. I just don't have the actual title or pay, lol.

I supervise the front end at Home Depot. Occasionally I go out to get carts if the lot starts to back up. I generally don't mind pushing carts because it is a way to relieve stress when you have to deal with the difficult people most of the shift. I just put the store keys in my pocket instead of hanging on my apron so it doesn't appear that I am a supervisor while pushing carts.
