Even if it's not a mainline title. Like, XV could have been amazing. But technical issues, story rewrites, content cuts for budget, mind boggling combat design, putting the beginning of the story in a prequel movie, terrible DLC structure, etc really brought it down.

If they just license a solid engine and work from there, I could see something really awesome come out of it. But I don't really think I want multiple open world FF games. I just want something that fulfills 15's potential.

I agree. One of the few good aspects of FFXV was the somewhat open world. It's a shame how Square Enix sacrificed the cohesiveness and integrity of the story and quality of the world for it though.

Considering how shitty the Luminous engine turned out to be, I get it.

Literally everything related to Luna was cut from the game lol. Ravis' story us basically nothing, and you never visit her home kingdom before it's just burning in the distance.

Plus things like the data suggesting a cut Shiva dungeon, my firm belief that after Altissia they planned a second explorable area, how bare bones the "apocalypse" section was. And of course that guy who made Magitek soldiers being relegated to a DLC only thing. The Emporer basically turning into a normal enemy before he does anything.

Man...

Pretty sure that's what we're getting with the next FF7R. The first FF7R was fairly linear because that's how Midgar was in the original.

I'm not really convinced. I think it's going to be like FFX, where the areas between settlements are wide corridors, especially with the chapter structure that encourages replaying for collecting stuff over backtracking.

But who knows.

15 had the worst open world in gaming history imo. It was trash

Eh, I didn't think it was that bad. But it's sorely lacking in content.

I think BotW hits a nice medium of having meaningful stuff to find/ see without stepping over some bull shit every two seconds like Skyrim. There are literally 900 seeds, but unless you're using the mask or a guide you really don't see them that often.

Final Fantasy is a shit series, just accept it. These guys take 10 years to develop a game and it's ass.

FF7R seems to have garnered acclaim. And most of 1-12 were good games.

13 and 15 though...

Hm, maybe Far Cry 3? inFamous has a pretty lame open world as well. I personally enjoyed taking in the sights of XV. But I can't say it's great. It's just too light on meaningful content.
