It sounds unpleasant, but at least it's temporary.

Don't remember where I was when I realized life was a game. The more seriously I took things the harder the rules became. I had no idea what it'd cost, my life passed before my eyes. I found out how little I accomplished... All my plans denied.

losing your faculties etc......

I feel like I'm going to die before this happens. Like, massive stroke out or heart attack that just straight up kills me.

If not, and I develop a degenerative disease that damages physical ability or mental acuity over time, I'm more than willing to kill myself before I reach a point where I become completely incapacitated. I'm a huge proponent of "quality of life" as an indicator of "value of life", and if your quality of life is dramatically reduced due to massive impairment, I don't see any reason to cling to mere existence solely for its own sake. If you can't live, why be alive?

My main fear (though it's less a fear and more an awareness of possibility) is if something happens to me with immediacy I can't react to, but which doesn't outright kill me. But I actually have a living will with "no resuscitate" and "pull the plug" stipulations, and I've got friends who would probably help with assisted suicide if necessary.

losing your faculties

Don't understand what you mean by that but I dunno, my only problem is not being able to accomplish a certain thing I promised myself as a kid...but besides that (and not being in my kids life like I should) I'm pretty much content with my life.

EDIT: just looked it up (not faculty as in a school, xD) but no, I'm not too worried about losing my mental/physical state (due to age anyway)

Getting old is something that's (usually) going to happen to you if you plan on staying alive. Get used to the idea.

I fear the increase in pain and uselessness as I get older.

I can't actually imagine living to be actually old though tbh.

You don't really imagine it. But if you just keep on staying alive and living your life, day after day, well, you do that enough times and it happens to you. It come as a sneaking surprise, because you thought you'd feel like a different person but you don't really. You're just you, but with a bit more wear and tear. Don't think of older people as some kind of different species; they're a mirror of you in the future.

This isn't quite true, don't forget that we enter our pupa stage somewhere around 40 and emerge from our chrysalis as the elderly imago stage.

Yes. Im in-between, and my friends are dating young-twenty-somethings saying Im still good to go. Alright for them trying to boost me up, but Im basically halfway-dead.

Ill be dead before some of the people Ive interacted with on this site.

I do think about this before I post.

This reminds me of when a friend of mine was like, "Yeah, we'll you know, I'm 25 now, and that's halfway to 30, so I should probably start thinking about settling down."

I was like, "Motherfucker, you are as close to 20 as you are to 30. Shut the fuck up."

Granted, he and I are both in our 40s now so our lives are functionally over, but back THEN he was still young!

Hmmm not fear but I dread the days when I may no longer be self-sufficient and independent. I am dreading that day. I hope like hell I don't end up in a home or incapacitated in some way.

One thing is certain, all the money in the world won't stop the aging process and ultimately death no matter how hard people fight that.

Nothing like old farts dating young people. I'd rather date someone I have a lot in common with but that's just me.

I don't fear ageing but I do fear death so the older I get the more I'm getting close to that and the more my life just slips away. Also other peoples lives for that matter.

That's definitely true, I get that. I don't see old people as another species, I'm just in such bad shape I can't actually imagine it directly. But I also stopped being able to imagine my future very positively a long time ago after life punched me in the face enough times. Almost everything I imagined was wrong.

There's no one size fits all to getting old. Given the shape I'm already in and how my dad and mom are though, I don't have a lot of hope.

My dad's dad and two of my dad's brothers died of cancer, so it looks like the genetic odds are stacked against the male side of my family. And my mum died of vascular dementia. So I'm not quite sure whether my old age is going to be cut brutally short or nosedive into a horrible decline. You've just got to try to keep yourself as healthy as you can, for as long as you can -- if you can.

I do but I fear death more. I can only hope that I live long enough to suffer old age and that maybe medicine will have come far enough to make it not so bad.
