These are real people (cut together with Parks and Rec reactions). I think this topic struggles to come to terms with the idea that a lot of people in the world fucking suck, because most people in this topic do research and argue in good faith ect. ect., but a lot of people DON'T, and are uninterested in propagating anything other than their uninformed, self-centered view of the world.

You literally just tell them you're aware of it and have evidence of it (because we clearly did), and they instantly shut it down because they were only doing it because they thought there would be literally zero repercussions on the world stage.

Of course that assumes a total lack of acquiescence to Russia on Trump's part, which we know isn't the case for one reason or another, but this should be a basic ass diplomatic solution that we would probably never even hear about.

Escalating sanctions hurts us too. Why should we bother with all that when we could just endorse Putin and be friends with Russia? Like I really don't get the people who think that we HAVE TO be enemies with Russia, as if it's in our national DNA or something. We weren't enemies before the communist revolution in 1917 and there's no reason we should have to be enemies. Russia no longer desires to be a world superpower- a power, yes, but they do not seek world domination anymore. Why should we be enemies unless we ourselves desire to be a world superpower?

I know a lot of people do want the US to be a superpower, a city on a hill, a light to the world, etc. etc. but we don't HAVE TO be that. We don't necessarily want to. And Trump made this crystal clear in his campaign - that if he was elected, we were not going to try to lead the world anymore.
