Very good Question...

I dunno, as someone who went to multiple Schools and Colleges and worked at Multiple Jobs in my 40 years, it really depends the situation..I've been to good/decent schools where I was happy and made some friends and been to some real crappy ones.

As for work, I usually work alone, and I have more freedom to do me...so I guess it would go:

Grade School/Work/College

Went to 3 different Colleges; but at times I was really bored with the curriculum and I always seemed to be Broke while I was there, so that's why I put it last.

If my Biz ever pop off like I wanted it too, then I would put work 1st.

People who hate their job will most likely choose work. If you have a job you love then I doubt they would choose work.

I like both, but work definitely is better. school is a double cost, whereas work exchanges one resource for another.

in terms of just enjoyment, they both have their pros and cons.

Work. I could skip school. And did quite often as a senior. And I got to spend time with friends. I have to work to live, though. I liked school better overall. Though, my current job is pretty good...

I voted school.

I liked school up until 10th grade. Most of my high school teachers were total bags, and I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, so motivation was low.

I'm a high school teacher now. I wanted to become the teacher that I desperately needed as a teen. I love my job, and I almost never have a student that doesn't like me.

There's also the possibilities of someone being terribly bullied or being disabled in a way that makes them unable to work.

I never really disliked either. It's usually people I worked with rather than the actual job.

College>work>hs

If I was rich I would just keep going to college and taking interesting classes, though as long as the job isn't a terrible place I do enjoy working too

I was depressed af in hs and my early 20's, so maybe that's why I didn't like it

Topic title is confusing.

Plus other than the earlier grades, I worked while going to school so there's no real delineation. The idea that a kid would just go to school was completely foreign to my family. The benefit to post-education work is that it's just work, whereas hs and college (and to a lesser extent middle school) were school + work, and often it wasn't particularly great work.

I found college far more fun than HS, although things were a lot more hectic then.

School is so much better than work. You get the time to have a general education instead of having a hyper focused role. You also are exposed to a wider variety of people and interests and have more freedom over your schedule.

High School > Undergrad > Grad School >> Work

There also wasnt really an issue with bullying in my school. The people who perceived themselves to be bullied really just had bad anxiety, and even asking them what anime they like they perceived as being made fun of if the asker was from the more liked crowds.

HS teacher seems like it would be an enjoyable job, just treat the kids like people and theyll treat you well.

School by far. I'm just not suited for it. All I can think of is falling asleep in class, huge procrastination-anxiety loops over homework/projects, and stressing over tiny things having huge consequences.

Work keeps me awake, is over when I leave the workplace, and no individual thing feels deathly important. Admittedly, a lot of that's due to choosing a manual job. Office work would share much of the same problems as school.

Where do you live? Not sarcastic, genuinely curious.

School was always set hours where I am. 7 hours of school (always the same time and always day), and however much homework they decided on top of that. Often that was at least a couple hours worth, or so I hear. I literally passed basically on tests, which basically is where my school's priorities were. Teach for testing.

After being forced to be at school all day I honestly couldn't have cared less. I guess depression does that though too. And a natural sleep schedule that causes getting between 2-5 hours of sleep.

And there was absolutely bullying and cliques in my school. I was not only ostracised by my peers since kindergarten (with a small break in 5th grade but the teacher was an absolute prick) I saw people going through even worse than me in high school. I've seen people get beat up over the dumbest of crap.

Tbh I actually focus better with a hyper focus role, something I can just hyper focus on myself. I'm the kind of person who wishes they weren't shot to hell and back and I'd absolutely work a factory job. Tried to at one point before I got real bad, but MiL screwed that up.

Never mind the fact that most of our teachers were crap and not being paid but being forced to be there. Again, only being taught to test. Believe it or not, I used to have a way better memory and to the point where I never studied, hardly did homework (I mean like once in a blue moon) and still passed. I had to make up one English credit, full disclosure, but I got the same diploma as everyone else.

I'm genuinely glad to hear there are schools that don't suck. I'm just having a I wish that were me moment and wow this really exists moment I guess.

I may dislike my job, but I don't need to ask someone for a friggin hall pass to take a piss and I don't need to hide under the bleachers to smoke a cigarette, so school wins this round.

@ChaosAzeroth I went to a public high school in Utah, USA.

We went from like 730 to 230 (idk exactly) with early out Fridays. We also had an AB class schedule. I did all my homework during other classes unless I needed a computer, which I tried to do as far as possible in advance (like outlining the book during month 1 if I knew I had to do it anyway).

We had the option of taking a free period for a full credit each year, and had the option of graduating half a year early if we chose to not take any free periods (most people went the full time though). We had a good amount of electives to choose form, I took racquet sports, a lot of cooking, astronomy, finance, and some other really enjoyable classes.

There really was very little to no bullying that I noticed. I never heard of someone getting beat up. The people who dressed up as anime characters and ran around the halls got made fun of of course, but not really harassed and definitely not physically harassed. If a fight happened it was usually the popular clique, who was welcoming to me when I was new and clearly didnt fit in with them. Or a fight at a football game between people at different schools. People asked me if I was homosexual a lot and some rumors were started, but it never affected me and I was never harassed about it, just asked commonly. There was the loner weirdo who would launch tennis balls at people and talk about wanting to start a shooting, but people just ignored him. One of my best friends got a lot of verbal hate before dropping out, but he purposefully got it by being loud and having some unprompted insults.

The quality of the teaching....most teachers cared. I had some run ins with a few, but it wasnt bad. Even the ones who didnt care I managed to learn a lot from their lesson plans and reading the text.

And part of my dislike of work is Im not a specialized person at heart, I try to be a generalist in skills and education. I like science as much as I like sports, art, or working on a car... which also may mean I dont really like anything (which may be true, Im going through major personal changes at the moment). Focusing on one area too much makes me feel out of whack. I didnt experience bullying until I started having work colleagues. I am judged when I say Im spending time changing my own oil or going to a play, and in some cases told I should not be doing these things (blah blah its more efficient to just work more and pay the dealer to do the change).

But yeah, people in Utah tend to be very nice to each other, accepting of differences, promote kids doing arts and academics, and when theres a culture of being nice everyone is nice. Its a great place.

I did experience some bullying in 2nd and 5th grade in California and Nevada...ended up homeschooling for a few years.

I dislike neither. I enjoyed college and the social interaction with my classmates and friends. I rarely see each other in-person nowadays even before COVID-19 but I still kept in regular contact with a handful of them. Elementary, middle, and high school had some bumps but all within tolerance for me.

As for work, I am enjoying the engineering position I am in now. It might not be what I want to do long term in terms of pay/benefit but I am still enjoying it. A few coworkers are difficult but overall I enjoy it working at that company.
