lol nope.

This might be one of the stupidest strategies on the internet to sell an item. I see it on Amazon a lot and skip over it. Do they think more people will buy it because it's in the cart over people who won't bother to add it to the cart to look at the price? I really, really doubt this works in the seller's favor.

They do that because the manufacture has a set price point for how low you can advertise their item for.

Is it legitimately effective, honestly? I didn't look into it, this was just a random thought after buying fish food on Amazon and seeing this today.

I guess a lot of people are gullible.

These sales are never that good, and are always done on items that are expensive anyway

In a somewhat related note, IIRC at one point Best Buy was considering eliminating the checkout line entirely and making it so any employee could ring you out from any computer in the storr. Apparently they lose a significant number of sales to people who change their mind between grabbing the product and actually walking up to pay for it, so they thought that if they could get you to pay for it the moment you picked it up you would be less likely to second-guess yourself.

yes, in fact i would wager all sales involve baby stepping, probably just less blatantly so you are less aware of it

for example, the dressing rooms and mirrors in clothing stores are a form of baby stepping
