Just now realizing this for some reason, they don't have a 1998 album from an artist despite having every single release since then.

But when I google it they do have it >_>

and I've even listened to it before because some of the songs are liked... but they're not available.

Yeah I assume the various record companies are kinda flakey on what they are willing to license to Spotify. Duran Duran's albums are mostly not on there, and I believe a lot of Japanese artists also aren't

there's even songs missing from individual albums sometimes, which sucks quite a bit
i'm still quite happy as a customer as finding these holes is pretty rare

It's really weird because now I see some of their other albums have songs listed that are unavailable for some reason.

Can't complain too much I guess but disappointing when you wanna play something in the morning and it's not there >_>

Blue October's first album The Answers (but if you google it you will get Spotify's page about it) and their song James from Consent to Treatment. I can live without James lol but losing the other album is a real bummer. Also a lot of songs on Consent to Treatment are different than the version I ... acquired once upon a time.

They have full discographies from many artists but it is entirely up to the artist/label what Spotify is allowed to have.

Took them like 5 years to add Jamiroquai's Virtual Insanity and the album it debuted on so it's more than likely licensing and what they can and can't get.

They're still practically poor and bleeding money compared to Apple or Google which doesn't help their cataloging.

I'm subscribed to Apple Music instead, but it's the same. There are even a few albums I've downloaded that I can no longer play because they've been removed from the service. Now that's infuriating. I really hate having holes in my discographies.

Before I started paying for Spotify I just had an account I used rarely there, and it got hacked, and after a month or two I recovered it and my library was full of wannabe shitty rappers with low production quality tracks, and some DJ playlists >_> That's what the mixtape comment reminded me of.

Tbqh, my broke ass uses apple music because it's free with my Verizon unlimited data plan.

on topic, sometimes artists will change labels over their career, meaning not one company owns the rights too all of their stuff. this is almost always why a release or two is missing from streaming
