Glad I had a Mom who used a DOS rig for work and an occasional game coffee break and an Uncle up the road who was a big gamer so I avoided the whole its just an overpriced toy crap that was prevalent back then. Watching parents in these old news clips is embarrassing, feel shitty for these kids. Its a marketing gimmick! Oh shit you dont say? I remember video cameras being a symbol of wealth, but VCRs were hella cheap. Mom was a single parent and we had one before I was even born. Video game consoles were admittedly all over the place price wise, but my step dads family grew up in damn near poverty and they still had a Colecovison. Granted a used beat to shit Colecovison, but they had it nonetheless. I dunno maybe Im looking at it the wrong way but this hatred of games and somewhat electronics in general I remember being a huge thing in the 90s. One of the few things I remember vividly from being really young.
