I would be saving somewhere around 100-300 per month, but times are tough right now, we're getting by month to month so I save nothing per month currently.

Extra money? Like you earn more money than it costs to keep you alive? I've never heard of that around here in the USA. You guys must be from one of those fancy socialist European countries where they have free healthcare and college and shit like that.

Extra money in your paycheck every week. And the conservatives don't pass a tax bill so they can skive it off and hand it back to the super corporate elite, where it belongs? What an amazing concept.

I divert 6% of my pre-tax income into my retirement accounts through work. Every year I get about a 2% CoL pay increase and I increase the savings amount by 1%.

I also have rental income from a house I own in another state and after I pay the mortgage I put all of the profit (about $400) from that into a savings account. That savings is just there as an emergency fund. It often gets used to pay for maintenance on the rental property.

Whatever I can. Try to save at a minimum about $700 a month split between a house improvement/vacation savings account and a new car fund, and then $500-$1000 for stocks. Sometimes those ratios change.

Also last couple months I haven't been able to save too much between gutter replacement and $4000 in vet bills... but at least I didn't have to touch either of my savings accounts for those so that's good.

Would be 2k but I had to take care of some debt, buy a few expensive necessities (most recently living room TV went rip so I got a 1k replacement), and then also burn money on a new PC and VR headset

I shouldn't have that issue all of next year unless something in my home explodes or anything else serious happens

I include extra mortgage payments as savings. It's going into your home equity.

I have $1000 a month taken out of paycheck that goes into a retirement account automatically. From what I take home, I save around another $1000.

Saving that $1000/month right now so I can take a few months sabbatical since I don't want to touch my non-retirement investments as they're down right now. Hopefully once the Dems take the Whitehouse and senate a couple of the stocks will soar.

  • i max out my 401k each year with pre-tax income: $18k / year or $1.5k / month
  • i max out my Roth IRA : $6k / year or $500 / month
  • after paying off my CCs i move anything over $2k from checking to savings, usually $2k - $3k / month depending on what i spent

so roughly $1,500 + $500 + $2000-$3000 = $4000 - $5000 / month

As of the end of September, I was saving right at 4K per month. Thats not an estimate either, I keep track of everything that goes into and out of my bank account in Excel. Would be slightly higher but COVID screwed up one of my side businesses for a bit. That money has started coming back to me in August/September

Additionally I just started a new job on Monday and am not increasing my spending so I should start saving an extra $1,200 from that alone.
