There are too many incidents where this type of scenario has led to a tragedy, so it cannot be taken in jest. At the same time, the kid is 15. There is a very real chance that he was fucking around, and didnt know the consequences that would be involved. Does he deserve a felony on his record for the rest of his life over that? Im not saying its right or wrong... just that I dont think theres an easy answer. And if anything, hes at least probably perturbed in some way. He likely needs help, to some degree. And I feel bad for the mom. Shes obviously desperate and heartbroken over whats happening. I could see this as someone getting to the point they know they can't be trusted and trying to get someone else to force what needs to be done to be done. When you don't know that even saying that as a joke is reason for some type of concern, you took a wrong turn mentally and could benefit off intervention.
