Lotta shows/movies with female and diverse leads these days. Things are even being rebooted to have a woman or PoC as the lead. Does this sell better now?

20 years ago, the Hollywood wisdom was "it needs a straight white male lead or it won't sell". Hell, you could argue it was like that 10 years ago.

Doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

How does this make you feel?

This was a change aimed at a younger white audience. The demographic didn't change, just the older demographic moved out so adjustments were made.

Uh no? I never cared for shows that aren't aimed at me

Plenty of shows still cater to the majority and 9 give those my valuable time

Never understood why race matters when it comes to movies aimed at men or women

Stars Wars was obviously for young men but I don't see why it would specifically be for white men

That would have to be true for me to be bothered by it lol

Honestly if it was like 1980 it probably would bother me. But now there is so much media being made that even if 90% is talking about stuff that I can't relate to or understand, who cares? "Broadcast" and "mainstream" seems to barely exist in media anymore, everything is niche.

No, because I am the main target audience of a lot of things that don't star White men...

They say that movies and shows are aimed at a specific audience but let's be honest, Hollywood churns out stuff for anyone who will watch it.

They used to make less films for geeks, but those made were of higher quality. Nowadays, they try to please as many demographics as possible, which falls short because you can only do that so far. I am hoping that the age of theater death, and streaming changes this a bit.

I would like diversity if it was treated just like any other character, instead of playing to types/tokenism. I can't think of a single gay character in fiction I think is cool, or want to be.

Closest I know of is alt universe captain cold. But mostly for the line after a female looks confused after he tells her she's hot. "Im gay not blind" other than that he was cook just cause captain cold in that show was and he was just him but gay.

most of the things i watch are made for an american audience, or a japanese audience, and usually for a straight audience

A show starring a white male lead doesn't make or break my enjoyment. There are significantly more important factors I consider when I consume entertainment.

I'm way more annoyed at people who keep telling me that art is catered to me.

The reality is that I'd rather watch random stuff on YouTube than the vast majority of films and TV shows.
