You mean the same Simpsons family where Marge and Lisa are portrayed as intelligent, well functioning human beings while Homer and Bart are bumbling buffoons with one being implied to be mentally challenged and the other who is confirmed to grow up to be a failure in society? Oh yeah, The Simpsons is absolutely sexist.

It's worse then that even. High Intelligence only runs on the female side of the family, while the male half are all bubbling idiots.

This sexism is rampant even in newer shows like the world of gumball. Where in one scene the mother scolds her daughter for stupid behavior she only expects from her boys. Also the father is a bumbling idiot also becuase of course he is.

I know this is more of a joke topic but I want to weigh in since I love both characters.

I think its mostly what their characters have evolved into. They used to be such endearing characters but became something entirely different and in a very bad way like most of the characters. Honestly, I think Marge suffered the most in terms of how theyve handled the characters over the years. Yes, Marge was always the least popular of the Simpsons family (though definitely not the least popular character on the show), but she was considered a much more endearing character with some of the best emotional episodes. She was a loving, soft spoken and gentle character who knew when lines needed to be crossed and to be dealt with and for good reasons as a concerned mother would do. She loved her family a lot and you can tell she does. Now, shes aggressive, loud and seems to just end others fun just because she didnt like it. Shes become more selfish, irresponsible and in general, less motherly and caring. She also tends to go with Homers behaviour which doesnt help due to how horrible Homer has become in the modern years and she even takes part in the same shenanigans he does, which is the opposite of what Marges character was. She was supposed to be the one who kept Homer in line.

Same thing with Lisa who usually had the most heartfelt episodes and you can tell she was just very intelligent but still an eight year old. Now, shes an entirely different character which has caused her to gain the reputation shes gained today unfortunately. Ive seen many people whove said that Lisa was their favourite character, until her character changed for the worst.

Even with the modern handling of these characters, I still love them as a whole as with the rest of the family and a majority of the Simpsons cast with Bart being my favourite character. I usually like to forget that the seasons after 11 exists.

Season 3 Lisa was perfect lisa.

Intelligent, but Naive. Proper 8 year old.

When she looses her naivety, she looses her believability and becomes flanderized.

While were at it~
Season 2 and Season 4 was Barts best seasons, Season 4 for Homer, Season 2 for Marge.

Most of the characters after that became too flanderized.

Because the writers made them this way. Homer and Bart are the Jokers who always come up with crazy ideas and funny antics (it's a comedy show after all), while Marge and Lisa are the more serious who try to shut them down.

It's not sexism, it's the same reason in universe poochy wasn't popular.

Because he got in the way of the trip to the fireworks factory.

Wet blanket characters are seldom the most liked because they are less fun. Skyler White on BB was very reasonable all things considered, but she often impeded the "Walter White funtimes cook meth party" and so everybody hated her.

This was not sexism.

I promise if you put a debbie downer husband in the movie alien who Ripley had to stop and talk to or come up with excuses to every 20 minutes, everybody would fucking hate that guy.

It's not a sexism thing. Nobody likes a character who gets in the way to the trip to the fireworks factory.

Marge Simpson's voice just annoys me. She sounds like someone's talking through an electric fan while gargling listerine. I like Lisa, tho.

Then again I never really watched the Simpsons, I just caught episodes here and there.

The show is supposed to be funny. Homer is a klown and Marge is largely there to be "the straight man". To keep things somewhat grounded and react to his nonsense. Bart and Lisa, to a lesser extent, as while Bart isn't smart, there's more going on with him than idiotic buffoonery. Lisa's roles with him shuffle around "the straight man", rival/foil, and partner in krime, but away from him, she's mostly voice of reason and stick in the mud. Even the townsfolk see her as annoying n preachy and will attempt to flee if they know she's koming to kollect signature for some petition or other.

They're not popular roles, but the show wouldn't quite work without them.

The show is sexist , but to the male.

Bart is assaulted, by a hulking man 3 times his size and it is played for jokes.
When Bart does start doing well. Time after time he has to give up his dream for Lisa. Like the time when he was ace at the drums and the when he reformed and was being hall watcher or what ever you call those people.

Hell even the Simpson Wiki said Bart didn't deserve the award he was getting with his drumming but that isn't true. He was good at something lisa attacked him and in the end she wins. Besides the ONE time where Bart became a judge, time they jump ahead in time. He is a loser and she is doing well.

I stopped watching that show but it is just horrible. And I know this is a joke topic , but this is something that pisses me off. Double so about the got dang child abuse.

https://www.dazeddigital.com/film-tv/article/39691/1/lisa-simpson-mistreated-apu-controversy

I agree. I stopped watching around 2008 (long before they doubled down on Apu's character) but even back then, Lisa and Marge would end their episodes being taught a lesson or having been chastened, while most of the Bart or Homer plots included at least a small boon to them even if they were found out.

EDIT: I read something a few years ago that catalogued the different plots based on which of the main five family members they centered on and broke down how infrequently Lisa and Marge got "happy" endings compared to Bart and Homer. I wish I could find it again.
