This topic gave me anxiety. I don't hope things don't come to that point, but it scares me.

i wouldn't worry about it yet if vaccinated . within a few generations of the virus probably have something to worry about.

I think a lot of anti-mask sentiment (and not just from the usual suspects; even from your average apolitical citizen) takes root in American exceptionalism. Most of us are old enough to remembers SARs, and all the footage coming in from China with masks as far as the eye could see, and somewhere in the back of our minds we told ourselves 'thank God nothing like that ever happens in America!' In this regard (and many others), Covid-19 is a hard slap to the face of reality that too many Americans aren't emotionally equipped to deal with for the extended period of time necessary to get things under control.

Same, although everyone else in the office ditched their masks around May / June 2020. The guy who shared an office with me until he left a couple months ago was the only other person to be diligent about masking up; at first he did it purely as a kindness to me, but the more he got used to it the more he recognized the benefit of it.

I count myself lucky that, while no one is 100 percent immune to peer pressure, I didn't for a second let my coworkers or the other people around me influence my mask-wearing; and I count myself even luckier that my diligence rubbed off on at least one other person. And to their mild credit, my coworkers never made an issue about it; the worst I get is someone on rare occasion jokingly complaining that they can't remember what my face looks like.

ok this is idiotic

1. Some people can't get vaccines . A lot of the people you're fucking over and endangering aren't anti vaxxers, they're people screwed by nature

2. Vaccines aren't a guaranteed immunity, by intentionally having bad hygiene and spreading covid you're still making vaccinated peeps sick

3. More spreading of the virus leads to more variants and mutations that the vaccines are less effective at fighting. Making covid more dangerous and more people sick

4. The whole idea that people who dont vaccinate are nobly putting their own lives at risk is a fallacy

Vaccine or not the most at risk are the elderly, overweight and those with compromised immune systems

If you're young and in relative good shape, it's rare for covid to cripple or kill you. By you spreading covid intentionally it's not just the generic "anti vaxxers " you're hurting. The majority of them will be fine.

It's the fat, old and sick you are hurting

I hate how accepted anti science and anti intellectual stances are

Anecdote time:

It seems like the opinion on masks has simply flopped sides. At first it people claiming it was a hoax, and supporting Trump that were cussing at me for wearing one at work, despite it being a state mandate and required to keep the job(would've worn one regardless though).

Now, it's the people who previously supported mask wearing that get angry at me for wearing one. "Don't you know that you don't have to wear that thing?" Yeah, I know, I'm choosing to.

I have no problem continuing to wear a mask. California is already requiring then indoors again and my office never officially gave the okay to unmask because the department of public health was still recommending masks, despite what the CDC was saying. It's really not that much of an inconvenience.
