Let's start with Facebook a very unethical company which offers a "free service" for the sole purpose of exploiting its users. FB management has show a stubborn indifference to its users privacy concerns that uses annoying ads that clutter user pages and users of FB accept it and demand nothing.

I'll throw in the airlines industry which staged a coup and what emerged were the big 3. United, Delta and American which now hold what amounts to a cartel and a monopoly and people who fly willingly accept the abuse as long as fares are kept low. All 3 have become immensely profitable after realizing travelers have no limits to the amount of abuse they're willing to take.

In the banking industry Wells Fargo opened bogus accounts in the names of its customers without those people knowing about it and in the process damaging those peoples credit ratings and they got away with it and people said nothing.

Last but not least, the telecom industry in which allows Comcast and AT&T to name 2, to fleece its customers via bogus overpricing tactics and their horrible customer service. Comcast bought NBC Universal which gave them total control over several networks and again, consumers said nothing.

AT&T acquired Time Warner which gives them control over CNN, Warner Bros, and HBO and again consumers said nothing.

And there's plenty of other examples of how companies in the US fleece Americans and we as citizens stand by take it and say nothing.

We're getting what we deserve!

It's been almost two decades. I've read Brave New World much more recently, so pardon my interpretation. I took it as bowing to a single power, and at the time, it was much more realistic to picture a government with that power, than a corporation. Why would we let a company rule when we at least have some say in government?
Anyways, my two cents.

i dont know how you people survive in the USA.
Thank god i live in Belgium. it aint perfect, but at least we got universal health care.
Paid 90euros to have a route canal done last week at the dentist. Thats around 100 dollars. and got most of that money back.
