But would a poll about pikaclones really be valid without Pikablu in it? The majority of people asked wanted Marill here, and I'm generally in favour of being more inclusive with poll options when it's feasible. Ah yeah I guess you missed Steiner's ranking project where he averaged lists from the entire board together. Mimikyu ended up almost at the top of gen 7 while none of the others did all that well and some were close to the bottom of their gens. We haven't done a Gen 8 ranking project yet, and that's due to the uncertainty of when Gen 8 will be considered "complete" in its roster of Pokemon. Gen 7 marked the first time new Pokemon were added mid-generation, and Gen 8 is continuing this trend. The Switch being more capable of handling DLC than the 3DS has made it a lot easier for Game Freak to add new Pokemon mid-generation. And yeah I know Mimikyu doesn't fit the general trend, but it was marketed heavily as a mascot for the generation based on its Pikachu-esque appearance. I think some of these (Emolga, Togedemaru) are very good designs that are held back significantly by being single stage. Mimikyu being single stage actually works for it and it has a great gameplay gimmick in addition to the lore.
