For the time there wasn't really another game like it. It had full on voice acting, everything was 3d, minigames, a hub-world, 6 playable characters, and it had free dlc. Is it the most impressive Dreamcast game? No it's not, but for a game made in 1998, it had a lot more content than any other game at the time.

The most impressive early Dreamcast game, in fact a launch game in america, was Soul Calibur. The fact that it ran at 60fps was mind-crushing.

It was. Basically a generation ahead of the N64 graphically despite only being 2 years later.

I'm literally playing it right now.

I played it over the weekend and while it's fun it's pretty damn rough, even when comparing it to other 3d platformers of the time

i replayed the demo a bunch of times as a kid. never got to try out the full game until a few years ago on pc. didn't realize how janky/glitchy it was but still pretty fun.

The American Dreamcast version is actually pretty stable, but the ports and the original Japanese releases are glitchy.

Phantasy Star Online was the most ahead of it's time game, upon release. I mean it had a built-in Google Translate to talk to other region's players, back in 2000 (Google didn't even launch Google Translate until 6 years later).

It's funny how after making Soulcalibur, the Dreamcast's best game, Namco just left the console altogether lol

I spent hours drawing the characters in the instruction manual

even more hours playing the game to me

where the games that really defined what next gen gaming meant. I felt like I was witnessing art playing these games especially Sonic Adventure

It's so fucking good. It's one of my favorite games of all time.

It's a long one but it's well worth watching if you've ever played one of the ports. The Dreamcast version was so, so much cleaner.

It always weirded me out that the "racing only" time trials for Twinkle Park ran at 60fps despite literally nothing else in the game running above 30fps

As for the other two, lol yeah they basically abandoned the console XD

The Dreamcast was so good. It had The House of the Dead 2, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Crazy Taxi, Power Stone, Carrier, etc. I miss that console.

I can never keep a straight face during cutscenes. The mouth flapping is just too damn funny.

You couldn't even see the level you were running through in the 2D Sonic games. At least Mario was a slower side scroller that involved strategy.
