I think even Sakurai admitted that the trailers were more expensive than making the characters. They were banking hard on the competitive scene that they totally alienated the casual players and are basically paying the price for it. I have 8 hours into the game and I don't think I will be playing it anymore. It was fun at the beginning when there was a lot of players to play against. It's a very smart move because it also takes away some of the pressure and anxiety from playing a fighting game, because that's one of the hardest hurdles for most people since fighters tend to be 1vs1. If nothing else, Multiversus appears to have more effort put into it, and the 2v2 format being standard (to the extent that the playable roster has their movesets designed around it) should help it feel at least a little different from Smash, rather than a reskin. Thanks for the additional info, but it doesn't really resolve the issue that I have with it. Shredder is like Batman. What's cool about him is that it's just him. No special powers. No tricks. But they put all their eggs in the competitive basket and there's absolutely nothing for casuals. No real single player mode. No interesting stage mechanics. Not even items. Melee is mostly known for its competitive scene these days, but it actually had a damn good single player mode. Classic mode, adventure mode, target smash, multiman smash, all the events, unlocking all the characters, etc, etc. What does NSAB have? Sports mode and an obviously thrown together Arcade Mode. That's it. Once all the competitive players went back to Smash, NSAB immediately became a barren wasteland --- If she says we partied, then I'm pretty sure we partied. I really don't remember. Multiverse though looks like it'll be the next major platform fighter. Looks good, although I'm a little weary of the team centric gameplay.
