Well pitbulls are one of the most common dogs in the US. Of course the numbers are gonna be higher.

Also never leave your dog alone with your kids. Kids are notoriously bad with dogs and dogs are terroritorial.

My dog loves everyone and has never been aggressive towards a person but I wouldn't trust her around kids. They always pet her wrong or try to touch her eyes or tail.

Here's the ugly part that a lot of people just don't want to admit. There are way way way way more pitbulls in America than Corgis. But do you know why? Because of dogfighting.

"Breeders" are often just a front for fighting suppliers. Dog fighters will take the most aggressive ones first and leave the rest to you. The breeders themselves will lie and say any bullshit they have to in order to sell the rejects to average people. Sure there's innocent breeders out there but you never know who is who. Breeders of Corgis, however, are probably not connected to dog fighting in any way.

"Just adopt from the pound then, so you don't support the breeders"

Where do you think the pound gets their pit bulls? They come from dog fighting busts and ones that were abandoned by other dog fighters.

"Oh I get my pitbull from a friend who breeds them and I know he's not doing anything shady"

Sure, but how do you know for sure that puppies your friend sold haven't been purchased by dog fighters?

Don't fuck with these dogs. They are bad news. Even if you somehow managed to get one without any blood on your hands you're still supporting an industry that makes up the backbone of dog fighting. Just get another fucking dog.

You realize that dogs that are put in shelters/pounds are put down if they are too aggressive right?

My dad had a german shepherd that had to go to the shelter and she was so aggressive they had no choice but to put her down. She couldnt be around other dogs or people.

Not all of them are deemed "too agressive" and you never know which of them are ticking time bombs. Everyone's dog never hurt anything until it does. Pounds can and will adopt out dogs with caveats like "no cats" or even "no kids"

I've volunteered for my local shelter. They don't put out dogs that are deemed dangerous. Those caveats are made to help the dog and the family ease into a new situation with as much little stress as possible. Putting an animal into a new situation is very stressful for them.

Dogs are animals and don't adapt to stress the way humans do.

Right, actual pit bull terriers. The issue is that many dogs that are actual pit bulls are whats increasing the number. Which is why the attacks are always said to be done by pit bulls.

People cant tell the difference between dogs like the American Bulldog and Pitbull. The reputation that Rottweilers had is the same rep that pit bulls have now.

They need to stop passing these bully/mastiff bandogs off as Pit Bulls. These dogs are larger than a lot of actual mastiffs, very little terrier.

That body type is mastiff, English or Bullmastiff. More likely they took XL Bullies and outcrossed with mastiff.

Two years is old enough to poke a dog in the eyes though, or tug on the ears, or grab a tail.

I just think people shouldn't leave dogs alone with kids. Pitbulls aren't more prone to this than other types of dogs.

If guns were banned...there are still over a hundred million of them floating around. We dug that grave too deeply to reverse. They last longer than dogs.
