The tribute to Thuy and JDF at the end got me.

Damn, this feels just like the old show, just....better lol.

Johnny Yong Bosch is such a prolific voice actor now that it just feels like Ichigo, Johnathan Joestar and Vash Stampede's voice doing a cameo in Power Rangers

Mentor Zack is so damn good in this. And I love the arc that Billy has here.

Overall I'm pretty mixed.

I went in skeptical of them adapting Thuy Trang's real life passing into an in-story death, and the special never really won me over on that front. Trini as a character never really gets enough attention to not make her death feel flippant and exploitative, which could probably be overlooked if the tone of the special wasn't all over the place.

The rangers get called in when Rita resurfaces. This is the sudden reappearance of the villain who murdered a teammate, whose actress died in real life, and we're getting jokes about Rocky missing his lunch break. >___>

And the Megazord...the model itself isn't bad but the animation is terrible. Like we had two whole seasons of Super Sentai showing that CGI fights look like shit on a crappy toku budget and they still went with it. <__<

But past that - the actual plot was good. The ground fights were nice, the costumes were really well done I think. And although I think they mistepped hard on utilizing Trini, the ending conversation between Billy Minh and Zack felt like a very sweet and compassionate sendoff, which makes me forgive them a little bit.

Overall I've put way to much thought into a dumb reunion special of a crappy kids show, but yeah, bunch of good and bad mixed in. Enjoyed it overall I think >_>

Rita made this extremely personal and went out of her way to get her hands dirty.

With the putties, I was hoping they'd make a further zyuranger reference by having them put themselves back together after being shattered.

Highly enjoying this tbh. Minh actress deserves a spot in the Reboot or next team though. And Rocky certainly looks like a 50+ year old man now.

Watched it last night. Dark, cheesy, all around fun. They could have padded it out a little more, maybe make it 2 hours, but I'm satisfied enough.

Just watched it. Similar thoughts as everyone else.

I wish they would have had Bulk and Skull join other than the banner cameo we got. I was hoping at the end they'd bust into the juice bar like they used to.

Also enjoyed some of the callbacks like the Aquitians and Billy's time spent on Aquitar, the Z wave, and hip hop kido.

Also think it's funny that despite being a Red Ranger, Rocky has never been seen as a leader of any of the teams he was on

This special definitely had some edge to it. The part where the putty patrol tosses this random civilian off of a two story building was surprisingly violent, even if they got rescued

Hearing the words "kill", "die" and "death" in Power Rangers was absolutely wild to me.

I also love that Billy basically established a global network of Power Rangers. They did show that there's Rangers located in Osaka, so that could be any number of Super Sentai teams

It's actually not the first time "kill" was used in Power Rangers. In the first movie, when the Tengu Warriors told Ivan Ooze about how their battle with the rangers went and that they were still alive, Ivan goes "You didn't kill them?!"

Just watched it. I think it could have been better. I understand not being able to have Jason David Frank or Thuy Trang in it, but they didn't have Austin St. John, Amy Jo Johnson...or Bulk and Skull. I was also disappointed Snizzard went over the Green Ranger so easily. He once defeated all of the Power Rangers by himself. The acting was a little wooden. The story was a little weak. But seeing the old footage of them hit me in the feels.

ASJ had legal troubles and AJJ refused (JDF too since this was filmed before that happened). Idk about Bulk and Skull tho, especially since Bulk's actor has been pretty involved even in the modern era

Whoa they mentioned Trini? She was my first crush ever as a kid, and I lost interest after she left with a very lame explanation.

She didn't die until, I think, 2001. Several years after MMPR ended.

Finally watched this last night.

It was pretty cingey. Felt more like the actors playing themselves pretending to be their characters from 30 years ago. Idk how to describe it. Zack was pretty good, but everyone else just felt like they were cashing a check. And the cameos from Adam and Aisha felt lame.

They had Netflix money right? They really couldn't do better than this? At least have some cameos from the other rangers Rita had abducted.

Also, in-universe, why was Tommy using Dragonzord power again? Shouldn't that be the weakest powerset he has?

If I recall all the original Zords were also killed off for real sometime in the original run of the show. Its an anniversary special, they wanted to use the iconic original Zords and suits. They seemed to respect canon otherwise such as giving an explanation for how Rita could still be around.

My head canon is that Billy created the master morpher and then further hacked the grid for everyone.

No power is truly gone anymore but it does seem like Tommy hated his time as the Red Turbo Ranger.
