Imagine some fantasy story set in a universe where it's kinda like Mario Galaxy maybe. People live on small planets all over space. But nobody needs a suit. Whether standing on a planet or out in open space, the whole universe has an "atmosphere ". And people travel between planets by flying boats.

If there was a movie or something like this, would it be an appealing fantasy setting?

A lot of shows/movies treat the vacuum of space so lightly it's basically already like that

I guess I dont understand how that is that different or unique to our current universe. At least in terms of story telling. I get that people can now breathe in space, but so what? How does that make for a huge difference in a story?

people still gotta use some sort of transportation to get across space, so theres still spaceships. And most sci-fi movies I see people are walking around without helmets or anything anyway.

its a cool idea I just dont know that its really a game changer.

I had a dream like that once. I was hopping between planets and planetoids. It was kind of scary.

Yeah you basically have to condense distance between planets in order to make "breathable space" not just space with invisible helmets.

Throwing someone overboard would still usually be a death sentence. Kind of like marooning someone

There was a trilogy about the 'reefs of space,' where out past Pluto... reefs of space coral grew, which created and bound an oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere around them.

Sounds cool. It would make for some cool visuals with space docks and weird architecture and planets of all different sizes. Trees growing from one planet around another so they're bound together. Birds and flying fish migrating between planets. Space whales.
