It could be a lot worse though, honestly. At least Avi Arad has some good movies to his credit as producer. Even some quite recently. That's more than can be said for a lot of people in Hollywood today.

Why does the Producer matter? They're just the wallet

If it's animated anywhere near as beautifully as Spider-Verse or the new TMNT, I have no concerns

That's not really true. You're thinking more of executive producers.

The actual producer gets to make a lot of production decisions (hence the name). They can easily shape the entire tone and of a film. They can approve scripts, decide who gets cast (or what sort of person they're looking to cast), decide who directs, decide who edits, decide where and when to shoot, decide how much money can be spent, and generally stamp their personal vision all over things.

Yes, they mainly handle the business aspects on a movie once filming starts, but they can still push for creative input as well. Hence Kevin Smith's famous story about Jon Peters wanting people to put giant spiders in his films (for some reason):

Peters is actually a pretty good example of how a bad producer can utterly ruin even IPs that seem completely slam-dunk or otherwise perfect.

That's also mainly executive producers.

The executive producer title is usually a way of acknowledging people who provided money and who are likely getting some form of compensation on the back end. Though EP credits can get handed out like candy because they don't actually mean much or do much.

The actual producer role requires a ton of work.

I thought the executive producer (singular) was always the owner of the production company. I've never heard of multiple executive producers.

Also maybe it's different for video games but Castlevania Lords of Shadow was "produced by Hideo Kojima" and he actually had fuck all to do with it, Konami was just banking on his name
