Where your personal excitement and hype was through the fucking roof for a game that ended up being horrible? Which game had the highest highs of excitement and lowest lows of quality?

Mines gotta be Sonic The Hedgehog 4. Them having the balls to name it that already came with massive expectations, and not only does the game have garbage physics that feel nothing like how Sonic should feel, the game has less characters, abilities, levels, features and details than the 1994 Sega Genesis game Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Dark Souls 2

Planetside 2

Possibly Mega Man X7. I was incredibly hyped for that. Played it a lot too.

Otomedius. Im a huge Gradius fan, and uh. This game did not deliver. Not only is it the easiest game in the who franchise, spinoffs llke Parodius, Twinbee, Salamnder etc included, but it was that gross kind of 2010s loli garbage. This game sucked.

obviously it wasn't a horrible game at all but I was insanely disapointed by the Halo 2 campaign.
Didn't feel like CE at all and playing as the Arbiter was crap.

Halo 2. Good single player. But the online play was terrible compared to Halo 1 xbconnect.

Phantasy Star Universe

Cyberpunk at launch. I basically bought a new computer for it.

I feel like most of the games I was the most disappointed by still ended up being solid games but my hype was just too high. As a day 1 XBOX 360 owner I was ready to be blown away by the next generation but the leap wasn't quite as profound as the leaps from the SNES era to the 64/PS1 or 64/PS1 to XBOX/Gamecube.

Those games that I was the most hyped for being Saints Row, Bioshock, and Oblivion with me end up disappointed in them all from what they promised.

Any modern open world game. Im an idiot who keeps buying them, enjoys the start and eventually hates anything resembling Ubisoftication and drops the game. I dont learn so I keep wasting money

Fable 3

Gen 8. Was waiting for enough good games to justify buying a console. Never happened.

Xbox gen 1.

Diablo 3.

Loved the series so much but 3 just went in a different direction after all the launch issues. There was a lot of hype for that game that didnt pan out for me.

Oh, forgot about Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

It's absolutely fantastic now, but I literally bought an Xbox One to play it at launch and it was broken in nearly every way for like four years

Metroid: Other M

Maybe a Saturn. I never really cared to get one until it was dead, and I just couldn't find any decent exclusives on it.

There are some games that were decent, but still letdowns because they weren't as advertised. Like Fable 1 and Brutal Legend.

Smash bros brawl

Biggest dissapointment of all time.

I did have a friend who was hyped as hell over Duke Nukem Forever. He had it preordered for years, and finally got his special edition. When I went to his apartment, he had the Duke bust sitting on the TV, and he was already playing the soundtrack.

We played it for about 4 hours taking turns, and then turned it off to play MW2 or something. We never talked about the game afterwards, as if the two of us just shared an awkward moment together that we knew must never be mentioned again.

Had been hyped for Final Fantasy XV ever since the initial Versus XIII trailer.

Absolute nothing of a game.

Mortal Kombat 1 is quickly climbing the ranks though. The extreme lack of content compared to MK11 and almost comically disgusting microtransaction practices are pushing it towards the top.

Ended up not liking the dem and never played the full game.

Farcry 3 is always the one that immediately comes to mind.

Honestly even though I enjoyed it, I'd have to say Starfield but that's just the most recent.

I had about 50 hours with it before getting bogged down with school/work and don't regret my time, but it definitely wasn't everything it could've been.

Spider-Man 3: The Game is the less recent and probably more correct answer. Spider-Man 2 was one of my fav games as a kid and I was hyped as hell for 3. It was real bad lol

This is my number 1.

Second and third place go to Final Fantasy XIII and Phantasy Star Universe. Neither was abjectly terrible, but my expectations were too high for what turned out to be highly middling games.

Rome 2 Total War was insane amounts of hype for me for what we got.

I did literally upgrade my computer for Dragon Age 3 though.

I don't know the last game I was truly hyped for. I quit getting hyped for much anything.

Rome 2 Total War does not nearly draw me in as much as Rome TW or Rome TW Remastered does though.

I think it will always be Metal Gear Solid V. The trailers were incredible. Ground Zeroes was amazing.

I originally began typing this as my response but only switched to Sonic 4 because at least the gameplay in MGSV was good.

I guess final fantasy 13. I already didn't like 10 and 12 was iffy, but 13 just totally cemented that it wasn't a series I was gonna care for going forward.

Destiny, was so hyped for it because of the PR. Got it, utter trash, repetitive gameplay and horrid systems, along with a broken story and bullet sponge enemies and bosses.

It's such a weird experience. I was hooked and put about 100 hours into it, but there's nothing remarkable about it...even though it has some cool and unique ideas.

I was disappointed in Bravely Default 2.

It's not a bad game. By most standards, it's a very good game. But I was hoping to love it like I did First and Second.

Twisted Metal 4.

SFV or Too Human

SFV was gorgeous and had all these cool ideas and... every matchup has a unique flowchart. That goes the same exact way every time. Oh no.

Too Human's demo was fantastic. Too Human's demo was all there was to Too Human. The entire rest of the game is just a worse version of the demo.

It's not a bad game. By most standards, it's a very good game. But I was hoping to love it like I did First and Second.

The combat changes and monsters on the field ruined it imo. It broke the strategy because now you can see the enemy default and it's like "well then I'll just heal or buff or do something else"

When I was all hyped up and traded in a bunch of games to pay for Devil May Cry 2.

Devil May Cry 1 was so awesome there's no way DMC2 will be bad riiiiiiiight?

My initial response to this is BUWAAAAAH?! but im just genuinely curious as to why you feel this way. As an Uncharted fan I viewed it as essentially the pinnacle of what Uncharted could be. I feel even stronger about it with the upgraded PS5 version and Lost Legacy.
