...otherwise incapacitated.

Like, yknow if Biden was unable to run or fill out the rest of his term, there's a deep bench of very qualified Dems who could take over and run in his place (none of them are Harris, unfortunately).

But the manner in which Trump has twisted the GOP has made it entirely dependent on him and his personality. There are no "rising stars" in the party with a future because everyone needs to centre their political careers and actions around this one dude's politics and controversies.

Basically in simple terms, Democrats have a decent amount of talent building their own brand. The GOP has none.

When you remove Trump from the picture permanently wtf happens?

They'll dress Eric up in a fat suit and parade him around as their new Fuhrer.

It'll be like what happens to a cult when the leader dies.

They'll be a scramble to seize power.

There will probably be a three way powergrab between his family, all the GOPers who kissed his ass, and all the Republicans who didn't like Trump.

Hopefully it's be enough to fracture the party and they'll all lose power.

They have no exit strategy, but you can tell what'll happen from the GOP debates. They'll throw some obviously racist candidates, some (not so) subtly racist candidates, some wackos, and some completely shitty "moderates" at the wall and see what sticks. Unfortunately, it looks like Trump-ish racism is here to stay in some forms, especially surrounding local levels. Regional politicians will vary as they always have.

But we're really fucked as a country.

Honestly it's almost the same situation as when Putin fucking bites it.

Like, there's no successor that's been groomed, no cult of personality around anyone else, and the previous however many years were just solely focused on keeping this one guy in power.

If we are lucky republican support will plummet and they'll struggle to win any elections for the foreseeable future.

This.

They'll be desperately trying to out-chud each other so they can try to step into the power vacuum that the fat orange traitor will leave when he finally shuffles off this mortal coil.

Trump opened the pandora's box of extremism on the right. They aren't getting that genie back in the bottle, and truthfully? They don't really want to.

Someone once said the trajectory of the federal GOP resembles the way the California GOP went. They used to be dominant in the state, but gradually became more and more extreme. When voters and changing demographics turned against them their response was to double down since "it's the voters who are wrong". Eventually they just kept isolating themselves more and more to the point where they have no clue how to communicate to voters outside their bubble.

With any luck there'll be something to this and that's what will become of the federal party. Crazy, but impotent and largely faded into irrelevancy as they rant in their echo chamber.

Murdoch was a kingmaker once upon a time, but conservative media lately seems to be beholden to the lunatics they've let off the leash as opposed to the other way around.

When that happens on a large scale and those people feel political discourse is no longer an avenue to get what they want, we'll start seeing a massive rise in domestic terrorism. It's already starting

I mean, the GOP has long been more of a right wing movement than a political party. It only pretends to be a party because they get so many seats in government, because so many people go along with the movement, but for a long time their purpose hasn't been any actual administration. Dubya also pretended to give it some legitimacy, until it became obvious that its leaders and establishment had long stopped caring and had only been profiting off it since at least Reagan. Along came Trump, who sniffed out an easy mark in its so called voter base as the opportunistic career con man he is, and here we are.

It's not a good thing that the GOP is trash. A country should have at least two political parties or else its politics devolve into what we have now.

A lot of dictatorships have a crisis when the leader dies. Life without him is not something a dictator can imagine preparing their followers for.
