if grrm wrote a D&E novel and it came out in 2025, i'd take it.

He should have been honest with people that he wasn't continuing the book series when the show actually did have the ending he had in mind (bad as it was).

Instead, he refuses to do so as that would be the end of his relevance...and so he can milk more money out of shows tangentially related to Games of Thrones with HBO.

I don't have sympathy for his current situation, as he deserves to be nagged about the last two books in a series he refuses to just admit he isn't finishing, although the death threats and the like is a step too far.

How did he piss off his fan base with what he wrote on his blog? I completely agree with him that there is a lot more negativity surrounding anything. Look at the amount of youtubers that just spread hate and the popularity of them. Movies will get a ton of hate before they are released, and people nitpick everything. There is nothing wrong being critical about something, but there are so many people that just want bombard anyone who expresses that they enjoyed something with negativity.

Stringing along the people who made you rich is a complete dick move. A lot of people throughout history, right or wrong, have been whacked for such.

Okay, but that has nothing to do with the content of the post on his blog. He didn't talk about Winds at all in it. Plus, honestly he doesn't actually say that. He quit doing predictions quite a long time ago. He will sometimes give updates, but he has not made an actual prediction since probably before Dance was released.

I stopped hoping for the next book, because at this point even if it does come out, the last one never will.

Would anyone have bought his books if they knew he wasn't going to finish them?

How many other writers will never see their book series finish because they learned to not buy a book series till after all the books for it come out.

One other thing to ponder, he does owe his book publisher the books they gave him an advance for.

The fans aren't entitled to finished books, yes.

Georgie similarly isn't entitled to receive fan support for whatever he's doing that isn't writing.

I would say if you keep telling people you will finish something, and spend years upon years telling people you are going to finish them, then you owe people either an explanation for how you aren't going to finish, or how you are.

The only reason people keep badgering him is because he refuses to admit he has given up. If he stopped stringing people along then most people would leave him alone.

I've accepted Winds will come out, after he has died. He may not want to, and he may stipulate that no one is to finish it, but Barnes had stipulations that his art collection was to not be broken up, and that was violated.
