It always felt like a downgrade from the NES games, when it should have been an improvement.

Mega Man & Bass (Rockman & Forte) looks a gajillion times better. Better than Mega Man 8 even despite using largely the same graphics. The presentation is just phenomenal for an SNES game.

Too bad it's sadistically hard (and Japan-only) otherwise it might've gotten better recognition.

The GBA version that we *did* get kinda sucks. Washed-out colors and compressed music, plus the cramped screen doesn't help either.

MM7 looks mostly fine to me, but the proportions are wacky and throw me off. Kinda gives Playmobil vibes.

The jump felt kind of weird but I liked it.

Impressive considering how great the game is

The sprites are really large. I never played it much. I thought it was neat. Mega Man X curb stomped it but began it own problems to come.

7 is by far my favorite of the original series Mega Man games. The art style is perfect, the music is great, the gameplay and level design are super solid... there's really nothing about it that I dislike.

I'd call it more annoying looking than ugly looking

The annoying part being how fucking huge the sprites are. Why is Mega Man bigger than X is in the X games on the same system?

Hey, that final boss fight was the best part.
I wish more games had it in them to pull out a final fight like that.

At aesthetics alone, it's way prettier than the NES games. But the size of the sprites is not conducive to actually playing.

Really? I feel like it was big, colorful, and very easy to understand visually. I never struggled with the size of anything.

Far from ugly

I find the sprites bright, beautiful, and very detailed
Great soundtrack
Good challenging buster only fights
Memorable characters
and yes, even a memorable final boss, but for the wrong reasons
It's in my classic top 3.

I know a lot of people refer to the final boss as being super hard, but honestly I never felt that way about it. It's appropriately challenging for a final fight, but I've never felt that it was harder than other comparable fights. It's around the same difficulty as Sigma's final body in MMX.

Yeah it kind of is. I think it's a nice looking game. And some of the environments like Shade, Cloud, Slash, and Spring's stages really show that off. Sprites look good too. Some of the robot masters have fun designs. This game has a few issues, but the art ain't one of em.

The sprites do look a little "bloated", but I'd still consider it as one of my absolute favorites in the series, alongside Mega Man 3 and Mega Man 11.

Agreed.

I always really liked the sprites myself since they look just like the series' official artwork. The weakness hits is big n' goofy (I really like shocking the hell out of junk man, lol) and all the robot master's poses is poppin'. Turbo man and shade man looks especially nice with those big sprites.

I do think mega man 8's and mega man and bass' art style looks way better though.

The final boss sucks because his biggest weakness (Spring Man's weapon) sucks. It's finicky to get it to bounce high enough to hit him. I use Freeze Cracker.

Everything about 7 looks bizarre tbh.

Like, just taking the player character for example:

He runs with his knees like a foot apart for some reason.

His idle animation is a very deliberate "no" head shake for some reason.

He holds his arm straight ahead while charging a shot. Um... it does kinda make sense but it's weird that he also does it while running and jumping.

He floats in water, but like, doesn't turn horizontal when he does it like every other object in the universe.

Just weird.

It's a hot take to do anything but consume product and hype things up

i have a fondness for it because people used the sprites for so much fan stuff, but no. megaman 7 and 8 both had a lot of divisiveness about their designs at the time.

Also didn't Megaman X come out before MM7? That makes a huge difference. Also Mega Man 6 is the easiest base MM out there. Even a scrub out there like me who can have some pattern recognition problems beat that game when I bought it on clearance at Toys' R US.

Mega Man 6 is really easy.

Ah right, I thought both 7 and 8 were on ps1 for some reason, probably because I played the anniversary collection for PS2

The cutscene animation in 8 is incredible. It was just the voice acting that was bad.
