Just got along with a subwoofer. Ive been using my TVs built in sound forever but decided to get get one. Certain sound effects sound amazing dont get me wrong. But theres a hallway like effect during dialog. There isnt much to adjust except for different sound modes. Ive read that DTS is good for simulating 5.1.

sounds like your audio is in surround but isn't being converted to stereo properly so 2 out of the 5/7 channels only get transmitted

Yeah if it's echoing you might need to mute the TV.

Never got the fascination with sound bars myself. Always better to get normal speakers.

That doesn't sound like what should be happening. You may need to adjust the audio settings on your TV as well.

It's because sound bars are typically cheaper and more convenient to set up.

So I did make sure the tv wasnt outputting anything. Im using optical cables and the tv audio is set to optical.

Maybe I need hdmi instead? The manual says to use that for best experience.

Other than that Im not sure what else I can adjust on my end.

Can you be more specific about this hallway effect?

Yeah, HDMI is a bit better than optical, but with a soundbar you're probably fine.
