Aside from all the obvious engagement farming with other "viral" pictures or videos people try to post under it, even the comments are AI.

You can thank Elon for monetizing Blue check marks for the engagement money they get. Twitter has always had a bot problem, but not like this.

The only good thing he's done is community notes.

The bluecheckmark was a sign of classism. Instead of clout, now you pay with dollars.

Stay away from Twitter.

...what

The blue check mark was a way to guarantee that you were talking to an actual public figure and not just somebody who made an account using their name

It was never "classism", it was a way to prevent people from being scammed or for misinformation to be spread by impersonators

It makes reading news pieces on Twitter almost impossible because the blue ticks get shown before anyone else, you just get comments saying "wow", "interesting" or simply just repeating the tweet's text.

It probably pays like $0.001 per impression but some guy in India probably registered a hundred and tells his bot to post on as many big pages as possible. I try and block as many of these as I can but it feels like a waste of time, I'm just playing whack-a-mole.

Idk. I guess that's all it took for me to never go on that site.

I remember seeing a video of some guy having some sort of AI in his Twitter app. He was literally just pressing one button on hundreds of tweets and the AI was instantly creating tweets and posting them all at once.

But, Musk claimed that setting up blue checks being something you pay was to fight against bots. What is the meaning of this?

It means he didn't think it through, at all. Or maybe he did and he just wants the money >_>

It's interesting that by "raising" the price of the blue check from "free" to $8 (it wasn't really free, there was a long verification process queue and I've heard of people paying twitter thousands of dollars to skip the line and verify them) Elon made the check mark have negative value.

Nope. What you're describing is what Elon caused. Anyone that forks over money can have a blue checkmark and he changed it so that blue checkmarks show up first.

Before he took over, blue checkmarks didn't have priority over other comments. It was literally just a way to show that the person was who they said they were. So if you saw a celebrity replying to you, but they didn't have that blue checkmark, then you could be sure that they were fake.

Now fake accounts can have that blue checkmark simply by paying a monthly fee. And we've already seen several impersonations on Twitter.

Twitter chooses which replies to show based on what you interact with. :)

Spend a week replying to Conservatives pointing out their factual errors and by next Monday your feed will be all conservatives.
