They tried to go full action in 16, which I liked. But it lacked the depth it needed be truly great.

I can only parrot what everyone has said. FF7's combat is so much better.

They were like "here's DMC combat" but literally only gave you one weapon. Gauntlets, Polearms, Daggers...Or he could've had different classes - they made it work in Stranger of Paradise for god sake lol.

I get it, but honestly the whole time I've been playing Rebirth I've just wished I was playing 16 instead.

I mean, I definitely didn't think it was boring, but mostly because I really like action games, and it has enough for me to keep me engaged. I haven't played a bunch, but so far, 16 has my favorite FF boss battles, and characters like Cid and Dion are definitely going to be memorable. I do wish it had an actual party, though and like you said, though, the stuff like crafting is embarrassingly underdeveloped. Eventually I just realised the game was on a loop of bad fetch quests and exposition > trash mobs and pretty mediocre combat > more fetch quests > maybe something cool actually happening with a style over substance boss fight.
