A large portion of the money they make comes from tips. Medium tattoos require multiple ink containers, needles, and gloves.

Tattoo artists don't have the ability to stand up from a lying position, so some people go into tattoo parlor at night as a prank and push them over. Sometimes the owner of the shop will find them before it's too late, sometimes not.

Kinda disturbing the world we live in.

The value of tattoos is significantly higher than the actual price. It's understood by everyone that the a significant part of the pay is issues through tip. This way the artists pay a bit less in taxes.

I always tip my artist. I have one guy who's doing my right arm and left leg. I tip him about $100 per session. A lot of their money gets split with the parlor. Like a 60/40 split.

Plus, tipping him makes him treat me like a fucking king. He's given me a free tattoo. He's knocked the base price down a couple times. He invites me to their functions that have open bar. It helps for a good relationship with them and shows that you respect the art/artist.

Besides, what's another hundo per session when you're already dropping like six bills.

Thats a great explanation. Appreciate it. But my most expensive one was $350. How big are your pieces?

It was already explained that tattoos are underpriced more than their actual value

Edit: also any tattoo artist that's reputable will give you a touch up for free after like 6 months which uses close to the same amount of ink

Most of my pieces took 12 or more hours to do. I normally like to break them up into 4 hour sessions. Anything more and the pain gets pretty unbearable.

Blame ass backwards tipping culture that both workers and employers do not want to go away and deadset on keeping it in place. Worse is attempting to spread in other areas.

Same reason why they also spread misinformation and disinformation that any employer can legally pay below minimum wage if tips are short. As to this day we still have people running around thinking legally Applebee's can pay you 2 and some change even if you got no tips.

That's incredible, man. Is that a Yakuza reference? Or maybe it's just a coincidence and characters have those kinds of tattoos in Yakuza because it's a more common thing, I honestly don't know. I just assumed Yakuza reference since three major characters have the dragon, tiger, and Hannya.

The tiger is negative energy and the dragon is positive energy. The hanya mask is just a spectator of the battle. However, Ive played every Yakuza game to date. I prefer black and gray Japanese with the negative spacing since I dont like how that art style is done in color.

Cool shit, either way. You get why I instantly thought Yakuza, though. Kiryu/Majima/Saejima are awesome, though it could just be they gave them more common/"iconic"/whatever tattoos on purpose. Thanks for explaining it!

Yeah, I always thought theirs were the coolest, which made me instantly love what you've got.

The chest piece is nice too. I don't have even remotely a shred of the pain tolerance or confidence to get anything near what you've got, but I definitely appreciate the work you had to go through to get those.
