There is a lot of skimming, scamming and excess executive/administrative pay/staffing (both from hospitals themselves and the various associated industries. Benifit managers, insurance, pharma etc though the bulk is from those rather then the hospitals no doubt) that would help a lot if cracked down on.

We also need to ensure proper medicaid reimbursement and government subsidies.

And then there are problems with some individual hospitals too I'm sure.

Yeah, it's disgusting that it's a problem, not that small hospitals and pharmacies aren't staying operational on a budget of pixie dust and dreams while corporate asshats rake in billions on healthcare.

On a related note, red states are sitting on hundreds of millions of federal dollars already allocated for Medicaid expansion. Republicans are letting their own constituents go without healthcare out of spite.

Montanas expansion of Medicaid coverage to low-income adults nearly 10 years ago has cut in half the percentage of Montanans without insurance, increased access to care and preserved services in rural communities and reduced the burden of uncompensated care shouldered by hospitals by nearly 50%, said Katy Mack, vice president of communications for the Montana Hospital Association.

Not one hospital has closed in the state since 2015, she added.

Hospitals elsewhere havent fared so well.
