It felt like watching a t.v. series with how much I played it. I played a lot of it just wasn't something I could play for hours and hours. I played 4 and hated the dialogue tree enough to quit. I wasn't also super into the base building aspect either. I need to play new vegas but that came out around the time I played 3. I have both 1 and 2 but never played them. I did enjoy the exploration but I just never was able to finish the games. Those games were fine, if not great, for the time - but they have not aged well. There isn't a lot to do and once you know where to go there isn't a lot of incentive to wander around. I personally haven't been bothered by any of the games other than the shitty ones (Brotherhood of Steel), because I never thought the lore or world was very serious. I mean Fallout 1 has the telephone box from Dr. Who, Alien spaceship, whacky radiation zombies, just all kinds of crazy stuff. I don't think it's meant to be taken too seriously. Especially not after Fallout 2. Fallout 1 had an insane graphical bug that made it completely unplayable; someone hooked me up with a patch that I believe fixed it, but I still didn't go back to it. I got maybe 5-6 hours into Fallout 2, and was finally starting to get over the learning curve and enjoy it...but then my laptop died on me.
