I don't vote down party lines. I vote policy. I didn't run. You don't conversate in good faith, why should I continue talking to you?

Gladius didn't speak in good faith? She's like the most sincere person I've seen on this board, arguably this entire site.

It's absurd to call their good faith into question here.

(And, I can't help but notice, a convenient way to not answer the question.)

is it like that where you are from? I am always curious on politics from countries foreign for ours.

We also have our political issues for sure.
The big two ones are Ukraine (and Russia) and Immigration.

At least that's the big political topic here these days.

But the big advantage of a multiparty system is that I can talk shit about any party, and if someone asks "well, who you gonna vote for?" you can geniuly say "honestly, no idea so far".

We also have an election in half a year, and currently our federal government is conservative/green coalition. People are extremly unsatisfied with everything these days, so sadly the far right is making some ground.

We buy too much gas from Russia and one of our big banks is also still "active" there (well, they got fucked because they can't pull out anymore).

But the biggest political topic is, without a doubt, immigration and refugees, mostly because they are not evenly distributed within the EU, and not even within the country, but cluster in single cities or districts.

To put it in numbers: 80% of kids in middle schools in Vienna (capital of Austria) don't speak german as their primary language. We have issues teaching kids the native language, because the population grows faster than we get new teacher and new class rooms.

This year some schools had to start setting up container class rooms in their school yard, because they have no rooms available anymore, but this doesn't solve the problem of a lack of teachers.

Yet if we are looking within Austria at the countryside it's not so extreme, and if we look at eastern europe, there is nearly no such immigration at all.

At this point, the discussion isn't even about left vs. right anymore here, it's mostly some infighting between federal government vs. local government, and sometimes even within the same party.

It turned into a very big blame game, and because our far right party is currently in no office at all, everyone gets blamed but them (allowing them to grow at least in the polls so far).

And ofc we have our own usual corruption scandals, but we already grew numb to them.

But be aware that every nation in europe has a different discussion. Different government, different issues, different blame game.

What is the top political topic here in Austria, wont be the top political topic in Czech Republic or Slovakia, even if their border is only ~60km away from my place.

Well, I'm sure the Ukraine topic is also big for them (especially for Slovakia, bordering Ukraine directly).

I should have elaborated(not to say that this information isn't a total gold mine for me) I meant how does your country handle politics socially. As you see there's a lot of back and forth which turns into downright degradation and I was curious on how people handle their political views with one another. So you are saying because one thing about what they did was absolutely horrible then everything they did was? I never understood this logic

I mean look at the opposite end we are no longer under British rule because some men decided to fight for their rights but they also did horrible things.

My dude you are one step away from saying "Well Hitler wasn't that bad, think of the medical advancements from the holocaust!" and no, that's not a good thing to say.

It's kind of impossible to openly support the current Republican party/GOP/MAGA on this board and still follow the sites rules (and I don't mean no talking politics)

The stances and policies of the administration are openly against equal rights, freedom of speech/movement and are hostile to women and minorities.

So you have to go "I'm right leaning but disagree with what 99.5% of elected Republican officials are openly saying and calling for."

At which point , aren't you just a Democrat? Who are (mostly) right wing

Oh, the political discussion is mostly much more chill here.

We simply say "all our politicans are terrible", and then we complain more and more, and everyone nods in agreement.

Ofc we also have some trolls in the discussion here and there, and some unhinged opinions, and sometimes some bubble here and there, but if you say "actually, they all suck, I don't know who to vote for", the first reaction will be understanding, and the second will usually be something like "Well, I know, but I'm still going to vote for X because of Y".

Even with more than two parties, we still try to find the smallest evil, and we also still have to think about if the party is even able to get some seat in our parliament.

But the big advantage is that our "left" parties can't lean too much towards "right", because it would make room for the other left parties.

At the same time, we can have some conservatives being "moderate right", so the far right doesn't get all these votes either.

Divide and conquer works both ways.
