I think it's the opposite. Misery loves company. They want everyone to have tied down lives full of responsibility directed at others. A lot of parents are absolutely miserable with their decisions but don't feel safe to say so. So they want everyone else to be as miserable as them.

I hate to use the word jealousy ever but from personal experience a lot of parents are jealous of people who have all the free time in the world and freed up finances to do fun things instead of sending Johnny to soccer camp or getting Annie's tonsils out.

I've met more unhappy families than happy ones, anecdotally.

I could see this being true, as well When they see another couple who has more money and free time to do stuff like taking a vacation on a whim, or buying something expensive on impulse, they realize that they cant do that because they have kids and stuff

I am not getting surgery. The doctor said that the efficacy of a tubal is the same as my current IUD. I just got it last year and it's my third one. She said if I like the IUD then it'd be pretty pointless basically to get surgery. So I'm not doing that.

My entire life I haven't wanted kids. My entire life has been filled with people older than me telling me that I'll eventually want kids and I'm being silly. I'm 35 in June and still don't want kids. People really think they know better than you.
This, except I'm 36 in June.

Personally, I'd still be inclined to go for it, just to eliminate side effects from the IUD, avoid the discomfort of future IUD insertions, and to protect yourself from any future legislation that might make sterilization or even IUDs illegal, but you do you. It's your body and you should do whatever you're most comfortable with.

I don't have any negative side effects from the IUD. I also don't have a period and haven't in 11 years which is nice. I might revisit again if the voter initiative here doesn't pass. But also I can get sterilized out of state and my insurance covers travel for procedures.

Fair. That's just my thinking on the matter, which doesn't really matter to anyone else.

I wish they could just like irradiate my nuts or something instead of painful surgery.

I don't think vasectomies are particularly painful tbh. It's like a less than one day recovery time for a lot of people.

My partner drove himself home after having it done. It was uncomfortable, but not really painful. Even recovery. It was super simple.

As I understand it, it's no more painful than most dental cleanings. It's not pleasant, so you aren't exactly going to book a bunch of recreational vasectomies, but it's not painful enough to warrant avoiding it out of concern for the pain if you do in fact want to be sterilized.

The worst think about getting a vasectomy is just not being able to have sex for a day.

Well, that and the smell of burning sperm as they weld you shut after.

I'm not much of a sex-haver I'll admit, but how many dudes are fucking every day anyway? Having one day off doesn't really sound like that big of a deal

Are you the guy who said he gets wet dreams after like two days? That sounds like some sort of condition. Maybe a totally harmless for all I know, but that definitely ain't normal

Yea, that's me!

IDK, I must be a "over-producer" or something. People think I am weird that I can have sex like 4-5 times a day and not dry up at all.

I had it done just under a month ago and was told you cant do it for a week, if you cant even last a day then clearly it isnt for you.

you also dont smell anything, not sure why youd think you would.

Because cauterizing is a thing. I smelled my partners when it happened.

It's not just sex, though - chronic masturbation counts too.

It's a tolerance thing. If you're used to flushing out the pipes three or four times a day, even a couple days without is going to lead to stuff backing up.

Conversely, if you've got a relatively low libido, you could probably go for months without issue.
