Absolutely. And in the past it was actually possible to save up for a house on that salary

Housing should be a human right and privatized housing being bought and sold (solely) to generate profit and capital should be made highly illegal.

I think everyone deserves affordable housing, but I don't think people are entitled to a house specifically.

Yes simply because everyone deserves a house. Were building one right now. If god is willing they might actually finish it this summer. Even with our decent salaries we can barely afford it.

If you include townhouses and condos as "houses," then sure. Not necessarily in any given neighborhood, but every city should have affordable housing options for gainfully employed people to afford homes even if small.

I'm a big proponent of shotgun house neighborhoods being constructed for this purpose.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

"Deserve" doesn't even play into it. All people need shelter, and having shelter shouldn't hinge on it being profitable for someone else.

I think we owe it to ourselves to have a housing market that has home options at all price points for people to rent or buy

I mean, its not realistic for everyone to have a single family home is certain parts of the country. But in suburban and rural areas I feel like everyone should be able to afford one if they choose.

People buying houses for profit generate a lot of tax revenue so the government doesn't give a shit.

I'm finding out more and more the government doesn't really care homeless and poor people. They get the worst of everything. Like, just enough help to say program X exists and we're not a barbaric country.

honestly i think certain builds of manufactured homes are within reach if the property taxes and land are reasonably priced. it would certainly be easier for married buyers with joint finances though, something increasingly rare among the working class.

I agree that framing these kinds of things in terms of "deserving" is kinda problematic. We shouldn't be trying to judge people, we should be trying to do what's best for everybody overall, and I think you'd get a pretty solid majority of people to generally agree that widespread homelessness is not a good thing.

^This. Utilities like electricity, water, and internet also shouldn't be for profit and should also be guaranteed.

Every adult should be able to have their own house. Maybe not necessarily a big house, but a roof over their head and a little lawn to mow should be affordable for everyone, and the fact it isn't where I live is why I'm planning to move somewhere with much cheaper property. I work in a factory full-time and I don't even make enough to afford a bachelor apartment and a car, and my company is likely doing layoffs in the near future. I'm gonna start with something like a shipping container home with solar panels on it and work my way up from there.

Don't really agree that a lawn/yard (or detached housing) should be part of that.

The big problem is small houses arent getting built. Home builders buy up big tracts of land, break them up into tiny lots and build McMansions on them.

Many cities make it illegal to build smaller homes due to minimum home sizes.
For example, governor Hobbs vetoed a bill a few weeks ago they would have made it legal to build smaller homes by removing that minimum size requirement. Many of the Arizona cities and other groups pressured her into doing that veto.
