Original always makes me tear up at Aeriths death. This one? Not even close, all this convoluted fate whispers/parallel universes nonsense killed the mood for me. I honestly dont know what they were going for in this one. Im just happy Im finally finished with this game.

So, what they were supposedly going for was to put you in Cloud's shoes in a sort of extreme "denial" over a loved one. So much so that he believes he saved her (he might have but we don't know the truth) and we as the player are robbed of the burial because he blocked it out. The question remains if the Aerith he was talking to was real in some way or not.

Execution is a different story, but that's the angle they were going for this time, the devs confirmed it in the Ultimania.

Yeah, I was disappointed by Aeriths death this time around. I missed out on the experience of it in the original since I had known long beforehand, and didn't use her (unless forced to) in the party because I didn't want XP going to waste on a character that would be taken away mid way through. Remake and Rebirth did a great job at setting me up to have an emotional reaction over her death this time since she became one of my favorite characters in the series over the course of these 2 game, but I felt nothing over how it ended up being handled.

game was like 40 hours too long, and yeah the story changes just didn't work

Yeah, I'm ultimately not sure if the different approach for the scene was a good idea even though I understand it. Nojima (I think it was him, he's the writer) said he was really nervous about reception of the ending compared to Remake's, so he knew it would be mixed at best. There's a theory that they might be keeping the emotional payoff of the scene for Part 3 when Cloud gets his shit together, but will that be worth it? I dunno.

I mean if they remade the scene in its original incarnation it wouldnt do much anyhow to begin with.

I know what you mean, TC. I did overall enjoy the game and I love the characters so much that it was great spending time with them, but I was seriously annoyed at how they ruined the Forgotten Capital, which should have been one of the most beautiful places in the game to see remade, and then just sort of gave up on recreating the most significant scene.

I get that they're going for something else, and I even expect Aerith to have a large presence in Part 3, so you aren't really saying goodbye to her the same way you do in OG, but for a series that tried to rebuild so many scenes, just leaving this one in the dust was bizarre.

I was also so exhausted with the game by the time I finished, I just wanted to be done. Good game that overstay its welcome.

They definitely loss the emotional aspect of Aeriths fate for a mystery box instead.

For people like me who is highly invested into the mystery, it was good. For players who want just this one game to be good and not have to wait 3 years, it failed.

Yeah... as much as i like remake project, i was also a bit disapointed at the lack of stabbening. The scene i was looking most forward to seeing represented (And im just a newcomer) is the one tidbit that was fully cut.

I read the funniest comment earlier: Aerith is Schrodingers flower girl, she is both dead and alive until you open the next $69.99 box and find out. Lmao

Yeah, it's still probably going to be my GotY, but I don't like how they did it.

I'm glad they still went through with it, but the emotion feels muted because of A. the fakeout, and B. her continued existence in Cloud's mind.

I do kind of like how it's clearly setting up for Cloud's incoming mental breakdown, but even though this Aerith IS dead, it feels like the developers don't want to move on from her either.

Yeah this one had no impact with her death. She's still there in the multiverse anyway.

I read the synopsis of 'that moment' when the game first dropped, and I kept expecting a trickle of 'Just beat Rebirth, uhh...WTF?' topics to trickle onto CE over the coming weeks.

Nice to see that I apparently missed my crazy pills this morning and that even people who otherwise liked Rebirth turned their nose at it.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of that either. I felt they should have just expanded the Jenova fight further and give her the opportunity to be the final boss of a game. Especially since I feel like fighting Sephiroth so much already is going to take away some of the excitement of the final battle against him.

We basically did the final battle of the OG already in this one. Atleast that's what it felt like.

Considering it has Bizarro Sephiroth (Under the name Sephiroth Reborn), afaik all thats missing is Safer/Sepher Sephiroth.
