I don't quite mean it literally, but you enjoy a piece of media like a movie, game, or whatnot and want to discuss it...but all you see practically is a bunch of complaining. To me, I can ignore it for the most part, but if I see that every time I want to discuss, it drags me down, makes me start nitpicking, and ruin what I otherwise enjoyed.

I've noticed this happening to me a couple times lately and decided to just cut myself off from those discussions because it's not healthy mentally.

Nah. I generally don't let people influence me. I can appreciate stuff more, but I generally like or dislike stuff because of my own opinions.

I read and watch a ton of reviews about stuff that I'm interested in, or might be interested in, so I do come across a lot of this. If the sole reason that people are complaining is culture war bullshit, I'm not likely to care - but if there are actual gameplay / monetization reasons, I'm very likely to care.

Like, I cared a lot about a lot of the issues w/ Diablo 4, cuz Blizzard had been on a huge downswing, and it seemed like a legit terrible game, considering Diablo 2 and 3 are still very playable.

Once i got older and more mature, i was able to understand them, but also decide things for myself.

I would have hated Pikmin 4 back in 2005. A bit easy, doesnt follow the original roots of the series, introduces a ton of new characters, and the sense of isolation is gone.

Now I see it as an evolution of the series, a different take on the formula, streamlined and relaxing, and i can play the originals if i want to easily.

It definitely seems like something I have to work on personally. It doesn't really erase my previous enjoyment of something because I do still remember that, but being around constant negativity over something you enjoyed is a bit of a bummer, lol.

I've been realizing that just experiencing things by myself is the best way to handle it without being directly involved in "fanbases."

Theres a reason fan is shorthand for fanatic.

No matter our origin, we are all one family, we all share one planet, and we all need to feel loved and accepted. We are more alike than different.
