Little did I know, I have over 200 games combined between the 3 systems and I do not want to even calculate how much I have spent on these games. Geez! I could have invested that money or made better use of it at the very least.

All of my games are physical copies because I do not like digital games.

$60*200=$12,000. It gets a bit more nuanced than that in that you likely didn't pay the full $60 for all of them and $70 has become the norm in the last couple of years, but it's a reasonable estimate for the maximum you could have spent.

$12,000 since November 2006 is only about $675 a year (and again, this is the maximum). If you've been making $7.50/hour working full time that whole time (and you've probably made more than that), you've made a total of about $275,000. You could have invested the money instead, certainly, but in the grand scheme of things it's not all that much. Meanwhile, that money has given you tens of thousands of hours of entertainment in those 18 years, to which end I don't actually know that you could have made better use of it.

Could you have, though?

It's an easy thing to say, especially if you've fallen into the trap of listening to societal expectations that say certain hobbies or pastimes are "frivolous" or not worthwhile. But unless you've got a specific alternative in mind, you probably wouldn't have been able to spend it on anything more meaningful or significant than the positive experiences you got out of what you did buy.

People act like everyone is wasting time and money if you're not spending all your time curing cancer or building some sort of legacy, but just making yourself happy can be far more meaningful than anything else. And better for your overall mental health (and physical health as well, by proxy) in the long term.

Unless you're saying you never enjoyed any game you've ever bought. But that's an entirely different scenario.

It's not too late. Sell them and use that money to buy up all the copies of Gay Superman #1.

I like digital games but hate asking for refunds or having to nuke an account for having one bad game and all of its dlc junking up my library.

Our principles on physical games do mean [we] miss out on some good stuff though.

Compared to some hobbies, video games isn't really a "I could have invested it!" thing. It is so minuscule vs. what some people pay on sports, cars, boats, planes, or other hobbies. Besides, the whole investment thing is BS anyways. Like the people who say "Don't pay off your mortgage early, you can invest the extra money!". The math behind it is so far fetched once they try to explain it to you.

Just enjoy your hobbies and avoid making stupid big purchase. A $60 once every week or two is not breaking the bank unless you don't make enough money to justify it, which considering you aren't homeless and hungry (I assume) isn't the case.

Why would anyone do this?

It does make some amount of sense, if your interest rate is low enough that you can reasonably expect a higher return on investment than you'll save by paying off the mortgage earlier, but in practice unless you're already actively investing that extra 2-3k you throw at your mortgage as an extra payment isn't going to make much of a difference in the long run, nor will it magically get you started on investing. That's more of a broader investment strategy sort of question than a "should I make an extra mortgage payment this month?" sort of question.

Indeed. The front-end cost for any given game/system is high enough to feel like a significant cost, but in terms of cost per hour of entertainment gaming is extremely economical compared to most other hobbies that have some sort of consumerist aspect to them.
