I'm certain Biden will win the election, what I'm not certain about is Republicans in enough red states challenging the election results leaving the actual result in question until the Supreme court is called to rule on it and we all know which candidate they'd toss it to. That's my biggest fear, people showing up for Biden, for democracy, yet the powers that be see the will of the people once again tell them "Fuck you guys you don't matter, Trump is your president!"

The larger the margin of defeat, the harder it will be for them to try to push that fuckery again. Give the Supreme Court nothing to work with in denying the vote tally. As much as I lack faith in the current make-up, they haven't been extreme enough to hand Trump wins on his claims of election interference thus far. As for the rest, we'll just have to make sure there are enough federal agents to take care of the nitwits trying to stage an uprising.

At best I could see them doing some fuckery where they just say states can do whatever they want in terms of electors. The problem with that is I don't see there being any red controlled states that Biden wins that will just say "nevermind, we're giving it to Donnie regardless of Biden winning."

I think Biden has a slight edge, but it's still going to be way too close for comfort.

I don't see Trump expanding his base at all, so I think it'll be up to whether or not enough people turn out to vote for Biden.

It's really hard for me to see even your typical voter just being okay with the Supreme Court retroactively changing the results of an election (in effect) by retroactively changing the rules (in effect and in practice) and majorly changing the electoral process in this country. At that point, there would be no reason for someone to cast a vote for their favored presidential candidate, as the state leaders from past years' ballots would be the ones to ultimately make the call, regardless of where the votes fall.

Keep in mind, something like 75% of republicans think the 2020 election was stolen. They already DO believe there is no reason to cast a vote. Well, I mean, they don't, because their brains are THAT far gone and they still subconsciously know that they are fucking stupid and full of shit and keep voting.

There is absolutely no constitutional right in the US for citizens to vote for president. The only reason such votes happen is that the state legislatures got tired of having a presidential election tire fire in their chambers every 4 years, so they punted their state's electoral votes to elections.

So the Sleazy Six on the supreme court would have much more legal justification than is usual for their antics if they were to get a case from a state under Republican rule where the state legislature tries to overrule an election in Trump's favor.

Of all the ignorant things I see Republicans on my Facebook feed say (admittedly that's the only place I see people being openly Republican in my circles anymore), I don't see the majority still pushing the idea of Joe Biden being an illegitimate president. I don't doubt the stupidity of anyone currently identifying as Republican, but I can't see our standard of normalcy in the electoral process being so drastically altered by the Supreme Court without some kind of unrest (even if that means through legal wars of sorts, and there would be massive protesting, though I can't say if that would turn into outright violence).

Assuming you are telling the truth, I don't care how you (or anyone else) is registered. All that matters is how you vote in the general election, and that makes you a Republican.

Of course, there's also the further evidence of you spouting Republican talking points.

With Bush v. Gore, the margin of defeat, in terms of the electoral college, was not significant enough to bypass SC fuckery. When they can pin it down to one at-the-time swing state, it makes their job a lot easier. The hypothetical scenario in which states just have their own electors decide the favored presidential candidate is more drastic, even if it could fall within Constitutional framework, because voters today are not going to just accept it and move on with that being the new standard.

Republican voters will, as long as it means power for one of their own. And that's precisely the problem. If Trump were a lone fascist he would not be a threat. Trump the fascist with the backing of millions of fascist voters and hundreds of Republican fascist fellow travelers in various positions of power is a mortal threat.

If they can get something like Project 2025 through, maybe, but that requires a big win for Republicans with the presidency and both the House and Senate first. As things stand right now, blue voters in red states are not likely to just say okay to their votes not meaning shit.

I originally welcomed Trump's candidacy 2016, because I thought the GOP strategy back then of slowly whittling away at democracy was certain to work long term, and any disruption of that plan seemed good.

Now the reality is that Trump's ham-fisted and incredibly blatant assault on democracy is way the fuck too likely to succeed.

I welcomed Trump's candidacy in part back then because I didn't think we were that fucking stupid of a country just yet to actually allow him to get elected.

Still, the best response is to do everything you can to prevent any kind of Republican victory this November at any level of government. What led to the whole discussion here was the fear that the Supreme Court will just screw with the election results regardless. My response was to make the electoral win significant to the point the Supreme Court cannot feasibly just contest the results and expect there not to be a public outcry in response.

I assume the fool meant "zero responsibility for covid", and not "for anything", since that was a real thing that Trump uttered: When Trump did publicly announce that he takes no responsibility for the slow testing rollout during covid, and that totally backfired on him (as it should have), he did a 180 and then said he took responsibility for the pandemic response (but not how it arrived to the US).

Trump is a terrible candidate (and even worse person), maybe one of the worse candidates to ever run at this point so it should be an easy victory for his opponent. That being said large swathes of the American population seem to struggle with even the simplest of critical thinking skills.
