Was trying to see if I wanted it or not, been watching it on YouTube, the gameplay looks kinda wonky, and the atmosphere seems near nonexistent because of the open world.

Open-"ish". Think ocarina of time open. So like, you have big hub areas, then smaller dungeon type areas that are like the bits from the first game. You're in a small town. It's all connected well though.

And I take back what I said about wonky, the guy in watching play is on pc and has his mouse acceleration up high and is moving it around a lot in jerky movements.

I may end up checking this out. The reviews in reading are sounding nice. I just think this guy I'm watching play is not good.

For all its flaws I enjoyed Deadly Premonition. I'll also be getting this one since I tend to get sequels to games I own unless they become infamously bad

This one seems to be doing well in reviews. I only watched the first hour or so(skipping through), but reviews say it's got a touching story, the mind bending elements are supposed to be a trip(like entire streets randomly lifting into the air in front of you and shit), cool enemy design, a heavy focus on the survival side of survival horror, cool little things to find fucking everywhere, etc..
