Sure there's still great games coming out, but constant studio closures, practically every game being open world or online multiplayer, loot boxes the latest trend, constant dlc, the effective death of the linear single player game, general creative bankruptcy(outside of the aforementioned good games), massive budgets required for aaa games, etc...

I really get the impression the gaming industry is effectively sandbagging their doorsteps against a rising flood.

As a counter point, this sort of thing happened in the movie industry as well. The only reason you're aware it's happening with video games is because you're alive during what's very much still a young form of entertainment.

I dunno, I feel like thing a have gotten too bloated, financially, so a game has an unrealistic demand for sales goals based on ludicrously large budgets.

This is purely AAA obviously.

The same could be said for movies at multiple points.

I know, but there's s noticeable shift away from single player only games, and the ones we do get tend to have microtransactions as a supplement.

See that's the thing. It's no longer a young form of entertainment. The industry has plateaued. It is what it is at this point.

Weve got some franchises going back to their roots in the best ways imaginable, and SEGA trying their damndest to do the same; mind, Whitehead and the boys did so quite successfully, but Sonic Team...not so much.
