I'm eyeing either Magick archer, Mystic knight, strider, or fighter. With Mystic knight and Magick archer being the main two. Not sure which to do. I know next to nothing of that game.

When you rent pawns from the Rift, always check their stats/info. Make sure they actually have abilities, and for the most part make sure their inclinations (Pawn behavior) are good. Guardian, Nexus, and Aquisitor are generally avoided. They're not bad early game, but they (especially them) become noticeably incompetent later in-game. Note: that inclinations also play a factor in getting your pawn hired by other people so you can get those juicy rift crystals.

Inclinations are definitely something the game should've been clear about, check out the wiki page to learn more about it:

The only bad thing about leveling is that if you want to optimize you have to spend a lot of time leveling classes that you might not want to play as. It's really not necessary, though. With endgame equipment and that right augments, pretty much anything works.

For fast travel, you keep an item in your inventory that activates it but you can only warp to portcrystals, three of which are set and 10 more that you can place in the world map. Acquiring portcrystals is kinda slow-going, though. I can probably send some if you want. Also consider looking at the game board because it's probably one of the nicest communities I've ever seen.

If you want magick archer and don't want to do mediocre damage, you might want to follow a leveling guide, which pretty much boils down to like 40 levels of sorcerer and 60 of fighter

I kind of want melee I think. The more I read here in this topic and online, I think Mystic knight may be what I go for. I might follow a build online so I don't fuck it up lol

You become a magic turret of doom with mystic knight if done properly though, its hilariously strong if you do a proper build with that too.

Sit in a place, drop your fields, and start spamming holy balls of doom, enemies get too close? they will get hit by the aoes and also activate more holy balls of doom, the enemy hasn't died and is inside your aoe about to attack you? do a perfect block, reflecting the damage, and SPAMMING EVEN MORE HOLY BALLS.

Seriously, that class is ridiculously fun, and the nice thing about it and mystic archer is that, if you do it properly, you can switch between the 2 whenever you want.

You could go full hybrid like i tried to do (you end up being a jack of all trades, i managed to beat the game with regular effort, both base and DLC, for what its worth)

Or you could do what most people seem to do, and lean towards physical or magical depending on what you want.

For example, a magic oriented magick archer can really fuck up a certain boss/miniboss thing in the DLC area with just the magic arrows, same for mystic knight leaning to magic with the post game boss.

or you could go physical and becomes a pseudo assassin with magick archer, since it also has physical skills that are shared with other classes, and your mystic knight can bash in enemies face with the huge fucking mace it has and a lot of physical enhancing skills, namely the elemental buffs.

They're not exactly a bad idea, but blackbitter island, the DLC area you go after the main game, has enemies that mostly lean towards physical resistant, not saying they're completely immune to it though.

Thankfully, mystic knight has an arsenal of magic enhancers and stuff like that so it should be fine, might have some issues with the true last boss like i did, but that thing is just a beast tbh, and you can pretty much counter all this shit with the gear you find in the isle.

A balanced build means you'll need a lot of Assassin levels pre-100 (stat gains change after lvl 100) and lots of Sorcerer post-100. I wouldn't really recommend following a build as a new player, though. Base stats don't matter as much as equipment and augments. The combat is the main draw of the game and there's good variety among the classes, try them all and don't worry about leveling. At least for a while.

Just read the guide i posted, not as a bible but as a guideline so you at least have some understanding on how levelup and stat gains work, and that way you can set yourself a path to follow, i did that, i messed up a lot on the way (leveling the wrong class for 1-2 levels at times for example while leveling cross class skills) but i still ended up with a decent character.

You can leave the extreme min/maxing for another character if you want, but ill just tell you that with my mess of a half assed build i could beat the online super boss just fine.

With the hybrid classes, those are the destination, not the journey. You can play and beat the game with any class, but your stats will be suboptimal if you level as a hybrid class.

Hmm. What I really want is a sword and board with some magic, or a bow. Something to fall back on if melee won't work due to resistances.

I just did this part. It wouldn't have been so bad if there weren't like 15 of them at once along with wolves.

Honestly this game is really weird. Like the whole vibe of it is weird. Progression is weird. Not bad weird, just weird. Still trying to grasp with things. All the food I loot goes bad.

Yeah, food items and perishables are literally perishables, where they spoil if you leave them in your inventory for too long. I usually don't loot them, unless I wanted to create a sour version of an item. Sour versions are one step before the item goes rotten, and it gives you enhanced recovery versus the basic version.

Three basic tips that help especially if you're going magic archer

1) leveling up as certain classes affects your final stats at level 200. Your skills are almost all going to be magic based so stay as a mage line at least until you beat the dragon. The toughest enemies in the game will basically be fought with you hugging their hind side and stabbing away though so you'll never be hurt if you spend a few levels as a warrior.

2) you'll spam a few attacks over and over then wait for stamina to recharge then repeat. If you knock an enemy down though, feel free to use up your items to recharge stamina.

3) at some point you WILL need to level up other jobs for their skills and there's a lazy afk method involving mage pawns after the boss I mentioned earlier. My advice? Stay a mage til you can upgrade to the advanced version, then stay that to level 60, then stay a magic archer to 100, then abuse that afk spot to master the other jobs. Mostly you just want the passive skills but they're also the higher job rank unlocks :(
