There's too much content. 90% of it being nothing but busywork.

Much was made about the dialogue system, but its basically just fallout 4 dialogue.

There are only 1-3 actual interesting side Quests per island/region, and not all areas have them. These are the quests represented by gold exclamation marks.

Literally everything outside of those quests and the story quests are nothing but mindless busywork.

You also HAVE to do the message board quests to level up, and most of them are timed and will fail on you if you quit the game, so every time you play you have to go to a message board before you even do anything else so you don't risk losing out on xp.

This is a 100 hour game with 10 hours of actual scripted content. The other 90 hours is going around the ridiculously large map doing the same shit over and over.

It's far more noticeable in this than it was in odyssey. The game is fun to play, but I can only play it in spurts. There's just too much to do. It's also really fucking depressing to kill 7 cultists in a row and not even gain a third of one level.

That's because they want you to spend real money on the 2 permanent XP rate boosts they sell in the in-game store. Otherwise the game is an awful grind.

Still waiting for the grind at Level 42

I'm level 30 and just got to Athens in the story, so not far. All of those levels came from just the first couple regions. Now all of a sudden xp has dried up a bit. Like, how much I'm being rewarded I mean. It's weird.

I'm a sucker for stealth, but by and large, you are going to be repeating the same 4 quests over and over:

Clear the <place>
Kill the <person>
Talk to the <person(s)>
Forced open combat

the only difference being a new texture for a building or face. The environments are too samey to make you feel any difference between fort a and fort z, barring a few exceptions.

I liked it, I completed it, but I can't say it's a good game. For me, it's basically sucrose. Sugar water. I love stealth to a fault, I got the game for free, and when it came out I had a very generous amount of nothing else to do. But it's the same 10 hour game, 5 times in a row.

This is how I feel. I don't hate it, in fact I like it, but there's some definite regressions from origins as well as it's progressions.
Origins would still let you stealth through just about the entire game. And for the most part, I stealth this game too, but you're a warrior so it's going to make you fight.

I've built my guy basically warrior tree and assassin tree. I stealth until I can't, then i fight.

I've also not found any reason to use any other weapon combo besides sword and spear. Both are the most effective weapons for their purpose.

Yes the game is way too big. You can beat the game and Platinum it without doing like half of the "?" on the map.

This. Origins still felt pretty good, despite its weak story and repetitive quests, it's pacing was better too.

Odyssey, once you have your ship, is basically: "here's a hundred hours worth of side shit to do, with no real restrictions or gates or introductions whatsoever, have fun".

I had been working my way south already anyway, some of those little tiny islands have some cool shit.

The island with the arena has a ton of side quests(the gold ones, aka the good ones), as well as a mystical beast fight, and a couple tombs.

I find it much better when it's remapped to the face buttons. What it does when you use the alternate is:.

Light attack: square
Heavy attack: triangle
Dodge: circle
Parry: l1 + r1
Parkour up: r2
Parkour down: r1

With this setup, I almost never get hit in combat. Having the dodge and attack buttons so close to eachother, and having parry easy to do too, it trivializes the combat even further. Makes it more fun too.

Triangle: Action/Interact/Assassinate
Circle: Crouch/Parkour Down
X: Parkour Up
L1 (Hold): Activates Warrior/Assassin ability options
L2 (Hold): Aim bow, activates Hunter ability options

It's certainly a better story than origins, but I get so distracted exploring and doinh side shit that I have barely touched the story. My current story quests are meant to be done around 14-16, and I'm 33.

There are loot chests fucking everywhere. Literally everywhere. I spend half my time exploring tombs and shit for them.

I hate the direction Assassin's Creed is going now. They're now just doing huge ass worlds at their leisure with no regard for the actual story or gameplay.

And as long as the reviews are good, they'll keep doubling down on it.

At this point I'm more excited for Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered than a new game.

Also, I hate how easy ship stuff is in this game. Are there even legendary ships? I've destroyed tons of elite ones, but haven't found any legendary ones.

It's not like black flag naval stuff, it's much easier. I've never even lost more than a third of my hull health in any battle yet.

Also, pro tip: get the hero strike ability from the assassin tree. It's the most powerful melee ability in the game and devestates mercs and captains and stuff.

I started playing it the other day, I don't think I'll continue. RDR2 ruined me for openworld games. Everything feels so floaty and unpolished. The horses feel terrible in comparison.

I'm playing it on PC on ultra settings/2k resolution and graphically it looks worse than RDR2 in 1080p on my Pro.

I don't like the direction AC is going either. While I had fun, there's just no reason for me to go to this new format again. I've done it, wrung it out, beaten the horse to death, etc. If I had played Origins, I wouldn't have bothered with Odyssey.

They need to refocus the core concept back to the original. Areas that are interesting and challenging to navigate that are guarding a target that you will then need to get the hell away from once it's clear you've kill him. And of course, variants on that.

I do -not- miss 100% completion conditions, though. Game design should make the way you kill interesting, not arbitrary restrictions.

Tbqh I think they should scale things way the fuck back. Make a throwback to brotherhood. Couple of smaller scale cities or towns, but make them more interesting and detailed, and make it more story focused, and bring back the multiplayer.
